Hey everyone, it's Will here from
0:01
Singletrack Magazine and we're here at
0:03
Eurobike 2018.
0:06
And the bike I've got here with me is a
0:08
brand new Lapierre. Now for 2019,
0:11
Lapierre has completely overhauled the
0:13
Spicy and the Zesty models.
0:16
The bikes aren't going to be launched
0:17
till later this year and they won't be
0:18
available till the end of the year, but
0:20
we're going to take you through some of
0:21
the preliminary details um because these
0:23
bikes have got a lot of a lot of details
0:25
going on, a lot of changes going on with
0:27
this platform. Uh the bike I've got here
0:29
is a Spicy. Now this remains as the long
0:31
travel enduro bike. The Zesty will still
0:34
be in the Lapierre range as the long
0:35
travel all mountain bike. But here's the
0:38
difference for 2019. They will actually
0:40
use the same frame um with a different
0:43
shock and a different fork, you'll get
0:45
different travel numbers. So the Spicy
0:47
will have 170 mil travel with 27.5 inch
0:50
wheels. It'll have 160 mil travel,
0:52
that's front and rear with 29 inch
0:54
wheels. And the Zesty steps down to 150
0:57
mil for the 27.5 and 140 mil for the 29.
1:02
So four different bikes using the same
1:04
frame, which is pretty clever. Speaking
1:07
of the frame, the design has changed
1:08
entirely. So we've got a brand new
1:10
suspension design. Um the shock has
1:12
changed from the top tube mounted
1:14
version on the previous Zesty and Spicy.
1:16
The OST+ design has gone. It's gone in
1:19
exchange of this four bar linkage with a
1:21
more vertically mounted rear shock. Now
1:24
the clever thing with this rear shock is
1:25
it doesn't actually mount to the main
1:27
frame. It's bolted to the top here via a
1:29
trunnion mount. We've got a bearing on
1:31
either side of the shock there.
1:33
Um so a trunnion mount for the rocker
1:34
linkage and the lower eyelet for the
1:36
rear shock is actually mounted to an
1:38
extension on the chainstay. So the shock
1:40
kind of gets squashed in between the
1:42
chainstay pivot and the rocker link
1:44
pivot up the top there.
1:46
Uh Lapierre have done this to to bring
1:48
the shock down lower to provide a lower
1:49
center of gravity. Uh we don't know too
1:52
much about the kinematics on this frame
1:53
design, so we'll have to wait to hear a
1:55
little bit more about that. Uh but
1:57
apparently, it's very fun and very
1:58
playful, which um we're excited to learn
2:00
more about. Um now, in order to get that
2:03
different travel between the four
2:05
different platforms, between the two
2:06
Spicy and the two Zesty models, um
2:09
Lapierre running the same eye-to-eye
2:10
length shock here. So, we've got a
2:11
metric length shock. The eye-to-eye is
2:14
exactly the same between all the models.
2:15
What changes is the stroke of the shock,
2:18
so the travel of the shock. And that's
2:19
where you get the different suspension
2:21
travel out of the back of the bike.
2:23
Uh more adaptability provided by wheel
2:25
size. So, each frame will take either
2:27
29-in or 27.5-in wheels. With the 29-in
2:31
setup, you can fit up to 2.6-in tires.
2:34
Uh if you want to run plus tires,
2:36
though, you can do that with the 27.5
2:38
setup. You can fit 2.8-in tires in the
2:41
back of this bike. So, loads of tire
2:43
clearance, loads of adaptability. Um
2:45
speaking of adaptability, Lapierre will
2:47
be uh using offset headset cups, so you
2:50
can change the head angle on the front.
2:52
Um and they change that head angle
2:54
depending on whether you've got the
2:55
Spicy or the Zesty. Um so, by changing
2:58
the fork,
2:59
by changing the headset, and by changing
3:01
the rear shock, you can actually change
3:03
travel and the geometry of the bike. So,
3:05
loads of adaptability in here with this
3:08
uh this new Spicy. Um there's loads of
3:10
other features going on. Uh the best
3:11
thing you should do is go to
3:12
singletrackworld.com to see the whole
3:14
story about the brand new 2019 Lapierre
3:17
Spicy and Zesty.
3:18
Um there are going to be carbon models,
3:20
there are going to be aluminum models.
3:21
You'll be able to buy each bike with
3:23
different wheel sizes from from stock.
3:25
Um alternatively, you can buy one, and
3:27
down the line, you can change wheels,
3:29
fork, and shock, as I've said before. Um
3:31
and you've got a really adaptable
3:33
all-mountain bike we've got here. Um so,
3:35
yeah, that's a bit of a first look at
3:37
the 2019 Lapierre Spicy and Zesty
3:40
models. Um jump on singletrackworld.com
3:42
for more details. Thanks, guys. To root.
