  • Seeing a lot of Kia’s in town these days, especially the hybrids/EVs. For sure the styling has got better and the warranty on the new ones is really good. Compared to a Ford, I’d choose the Kia (Ford have a poor rep for rust in these parts). Hell, the Niro is like the latest ‘in’ car to buy near me.

  • Our VW Passat gets a solid 6l/100km on most long journeys, sometimes more (if loaded) sometimes less. This is not super good compared to some diesels, but for a 1.4 flexifuel is actually not bad, especially as the car is usually being driven at steady motorway speeds. A diesel would have been better, but would have had issues with particulates in town.

  • Perhaps slavery could be reintroduced too, then factory owners could beat their workers as well.

That is such a vulgar and illegal term. Perhaps, in this modern age, we can rebrand it to something more suitable, like being part of a “National Workforce Pool” or “Compulsory British Workforce”.

Remember, if you refuse to take part, it’s…[Read more]

Sold my TT through them. To be honest, it was sad doing it and I got waaaay less than I had hoped for because of some scuffed alloys and a few interior marks, but it did mean i did not have to tax, insure or fuel it. It also stopped time wasters not buying it.

I have a slightly different problem with my last house sale… It turned out that my old solicitor (purchase) had not ensured that the deed for the garage had transferred with the house and was still registered to the previous owner. After a lot of talking, I had enough and found the previous owner, spoke to him and got it sorted.

    It turned out…[Read more]

Damn, that sounds like a pain. I guess offering them the 85 quid is not an option…

Don’t worry about venting by the way, that’s half of what this place is for

Yeah, had to do this too after my dad died. My older sister and her husband (who live close by) spent a lot of time renovating it and we rented it out for a couple of years. The family there were really good and so, when we decided to sell, we gave them first refusal on a fair market rate. Sadly it was just too much for them. we ended up selling…[Read more]

I drove one and thought it was a bit lazy on gear changes, but that was the base model and I think the S would have been better. But… Such a balanced car to drive. It loved corners.

Sadly it was also too small for my 1.97m frame and had no effective luggage space, so I bought a 3.2 VR6 TT instead.

If I just wanted a toy and was a bit shorter,…[Read more]

  • Nope, can’t get on with them when I am cycling, mainly because they are either too restrictive when I am blowing out of my arse up a hill, or because I keep fogging up my glasses when I am stopped. Hell, it’s bad enough with just sweat fogging my glasses when I am stopped.

Risk increases heavily if the first child is conceived at 40 or later and you will always get risk profiled for Downs prior to that. If you go through IVF, then it’s possible to ask for the more expensive tests too.

WRT IVF, it is a total test of a relationship and will expose any small flaws that are present or could develop. it’s really…[Read more]

Not up to your normal standard PP, we’ve come to expect so much from you and to have that stop, well, let’s just say we feel let down.

You could be lucky first time, or it could take years and many failed (and really sad) pregnancies. The worst part is not being able to really influence the outcome in any way.

Just be aware that pregnancy/kids do not help bring couples together. You need to be solid as a partnership before starting on the journey because, in all likelihood,…[Read more]

  • Sweden is odd… It’s big, so people have to use cars to get between towns/cities, but we do have a superb rail network and busses are good too. In Stockholm, I cannot think of a worse way to get round than by car (mainly because parking is terrible). Cycling is easy, subway really efficient and many good bus routes.

Saying that, I took the car…[Read more]

186 day streak for Swedish here, but using it effectively every day for the last two years. It put me from zero to B1/B2 in that time.

  • I think we are watering down the message here. We need to make sure this important research does not become a damp squid.

Well, the bombing of cultural and non-military sites is a crime under the international law of armed conflict. People being asked to carry this order out would be entitled to refuse to obey it and the person issuing the order could be arrested and tried under the same laws.

No wonder the military rolled back on that one.

Bobby Draper (in the books at least) was never really womanly, she was hardcore, so I think they did a decent job with who they found for TV, maybe a bit short, but you are not going to find two metre tall, 100kg women everywhere.

I’m really impressed with it still, despite reading the books after watching it. I really should finish season four though

Made it. Had a close call driving north at the weekend, and again on the 23rd when food prepping demanded festive music, but done. I feel better in my soul.
