Hi Vader – So you can sail and run ? Do you have much sailing experience or completed other multi day running / adventure events

Yeah as far as I know you can run and sail – assuming no rule changes since I did it in 2012. I wouldn’t underestimate how hard it would be to do both though! I was there as a reserve runner in event of an injury f…[Read more]

I did it as crew (and back up runner), it’s a great event. The sailing was why I was there tbh, it was awesome. It’s pretty tiring as crew, I helmed the night watch and cooked.

Sailing into the darkness through the Sound of Luing and Sound of Jura is something you won’t forget

  • Me and the princess are after a tablet, something we can take away on holiday to check emails, weather forecasts and do a bit of work admin. Maybe watch a movie or two.

Ideally it would have outlook/office on it for the work stuff and looking at word or excel docs.

Price wise we have a max budget of £150 but nearer £100 would be nice. Are w…[Read more]

For me, Green King IPA remains the quintessential ipa. I have no idea which hops are in it though, I just drink it and leave the pontification to the chunky knit wearing bearded chin strokers.

  • Yeah I do this in scotland, in fact I have done it for about 7 or 8 years and had a variety of lodgers, some amazing, some awful.

I’d recommend doing a lodger’s agreement – you can download examples and then modify to suit your needs. Basically it outlines the rules, the cost, what they get and the dates they pay rent, the dates they move in etc…[Read more]

  • I agree with nickc too – we are in the proverbial but we could be in deeper. Johnson can afford to flick the ERG the V’s now, and they know it. A small majority would be ghastly.
Expect a pivot in 5,4,3……..oh he’s a one nation tory now! I’m shocked, shocked I tell you. Just like his old chum CMD. And now the red lines are getting a bit pink,…[Read more]

  • Nah this thread is going to run and run, it fact it’s only just started. The next 12 months is going to be mental, and Johnson is gonna pivot like a three legged pig.

I think it’s worth reflecting on history before anyone rushes into this….and it’s interesting to see that Blair, Brown and Corbyn were all first elected to parliament in the Michael Foot wipeout of 83.

Two leaders and eleven yes, eleven, years later we got to Blair as leader, and then another three years after that we got a Labour Government.…[Read more]

I’m in Fife where the SNP beat the LibDems by just 2 votes in 2017

My work mate lives in Fife in Stephen Gethin’s constituency – on the day of the 2017 election he asked me who they should vote for as they weren’t 100% sure what was best to deny the Tories. I suggested that in that constituency probably the SNP. That evening he and his p…[Read more]

Forget to say I have used both brush and rags to apply – rag is better ime, you can work it in much more easily

That looks fairly similar to the high wear areas on our oak flooring, specifically the hall corridor which gets the double wammy of dirt on shoes plus all the footfall.

Every now and again I scrub with hot water and washing up liquid (ecover) to lift the dirt. I’m about to do a re wax with Osmo wax oil, probably a couple of coats. Originally it…[Read more]

If you look at the BBC ‘your pictures’ every week there is no end of high quality images of utterly appalling and badly lit compositions.

i’d absolutely love a smartphone camera that wasn’t a’phone’ as well – one that I could turn on and off at will, one that I wouldn’t be thinking about battery life all the time and all that jazz. It would be great on long trips where recharging is an issue, and it would be tiny and light and fit in a teeny wee pocket out of the way

    But I accept…[Read more]

  • Interesting thread this

We are using makita 18v lxt stuff at work, it’s a filthy wet trade in all weathers and it is holding up well. Basically using combi drills and blowers. Battery life and recharge times are superb. We do a lot of wet mixing with a giant whisk and combi drill, heavy work with viscous liquids but no bother at all.

  • Think we have tried pretty much everything now, including making our own oat milk for a fair while. Now exclusively use Oatly Barista and just buy it in bulk and stack it in the larder.

Interestingly we were discussing it today and calculating that we probably use roughly half the amount of barista to normal Oatly that we’d put into a cuppa, so…[Read more]

  • You can hire yourself a cantilever system to attach to your mobile tower (or hire both). That should get you close enough.

The ladder alternative plus ladder stay will also work provided you can fix the base of the ladder to prevent it slipping – either by staking the lawn or parking a vehicle up against the foot of the ladder. The biggest…[Read more]

  • Like msttyfez my car has 3 wheel size options and 4 tyre size options listed in the handbook as standard. The 4th tyre size is if you want to use snow chains as you need to ensure clearance to the strut.

  • You need to check the vehicles handbook to see what the permitted wheel/tyre sizes are for it. There will probably be 2 or 3. Also as a guide, look inside the petrol filler flap, the tyre pressure sticker (if there is one) will probably list the recommended pressures for the different tyre sizes allowed on the vehicle.

    Changing to sizes outside…[Read more]
