  • Well, I’m starting to get twitchy about bed offset! Just comes with the territory I guess…

Tinas- ours is a fortus 400. It’s impressive the degree to which it just cracks on, but when it does have a wobbly moment it’s very much the same sort of process as with the basic machines to get everything sorted again, just with some slightly poshe…[Read more]

  • Surely to most people it’s a mix of both, depending on the day?

  • Cheers- got a lot of reading up to do. I have some experience using ‘industrial grade’ printers at work, including a metal sintering machine, so it’s really interesting to see where they hold your hand compared to the hobbyist models.

So far, I really miss soluble support that ‘just happens’!

  • Has anyone fettled a Rival spider to fit on a force crank? I naively expected to be able to swap between the two but the shape is slightly different so it clashes with the arm. Before I think about getting the dremel out I thought I’d see if anyone else had tried the same. Will everything be fine? Will I die in a cloud of aluminium splinters w…[Read more]

  • Do not get clogged up with mud / ice / snow

I’ve successfully clagged up a Singlespeed drivetrain to the point it pushed the chain off. I’ve also managed the same with a tensioner before I had a proper ss frame. I can remember a very cold, wet 40 minutes spent attempting to get the belt drive back on someone’s ‘winter proof’ alfine bike afte…[Read more]

Of course they’re not fracking underneath Godalming

To be fair, they were looking to frack only a few miles away at leith hill

  • Well, I bought slackman’s ender3 pro in the end, so hopefully I’ll have some interesting things to share before long.

  • The only word of warning I’ll offer about the edge is that I found the stays weren’t long enough to deal with the ‘odd’ mount locations on my bike- mid fork or in front of the axle (it’s a bowman). As a result I’ve only used the rear for a bit at the end of last winter, but that seemed pretty solid. I really need to sort out fitting them!

I think it comes as stock with plus but will take 29.

Also think about the trek stache- crazy short chain stays but they sort of cancel out with the big wheels.

Ooh, I’d forgotten it but if you can get it over here there’s a diamondback carbon ht that might fit the bill.

Northwind, i think the guys at nsmb gave the 2.6 Bontrager se2 a pretty solid review for that sort of use.

I’ve been looking for something like this to replace my mk1 Solaris- I think everything I was considering has been mentioned above, with the possible exception of the Arc8 (although that’s at the XC end of what you’re looking at). Ended up thinking I’ll probably just get a newer Solaris and spend the difference in cash on a second lightwe…[Read more]

I’ll second works. Lasted longer than anything that isn’t steel and overbuilt.

  • swanny853 replied to the topic What 12 speed drive chain? in the forum Bike Forum 2 weeks ago

12s SLX mech and shifter are really nice. I have them on an eagle cassette and chain because I already had an xd freehub.

They’re sufficiently better than the 11s stuff on my other bike (in general feel even before you account for range) that I’d consider changing my plan to run the 11s stuff I have into the ground before swapping up.

  • Following the 3D scanning comments, you can do pretty good work with open source photogrammetry software- I think Colmap has a pretty good reputation for being on the easier side to use. Make sure the surface you want to work with is matt and get some ‘texture’ on there for the feature detection to work with should be able to get a reasonable sur…[Read more]
