I replaced my 2015 Trance (stolen by my son) with a 29er Trance. No regrets.
My son (Thump) has had my large 27.5 Giant Trance since he was 12 and a bit.
Before that (11) he was on a small second-hand Whyte E120. H (11) has just been given a small 26″ 456,
Kids take a real stretch at 13 so buy what is affordable and dont expect it to fit in 12 months.
Thump is 13 and now 5ft 11 FFS! His feet are bigger than mine!
They’ve reduced the odds of winning:

And three times I’ve taken a group to Nigg to catch the Cromarty ferry to the Black Isle and every time the ferry has not been running. Can’t start the engine, pissed off to deliver to the oil rigs, not woken up yet.
So, three times I’ve had to do a tedious detour via Dingwall, attempting to keep off the main road using a not-fit for purpose…[Read more]
2013 was my last tour to Cape Wrath. Last week in May and we didn’t get to the Cape because the ferry wasn’t running (strong winds).
Also had a lass collapse at Scourie, resulting on me having to call paramedics. Ended up putting her into a B&B for the night with a friend, and she completed the rest of the tour using the bike-bus. A…[Read more]
Cape Wrath. The ferry – basically a rowing boat with an outboard – does not run in strong winds so be prepared for that risk.
I used to help lead the Cycling UK tour of a very similar route. <span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>My last tour that way was 2008 so my info’ may be out of date (</span><span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>we stopped because…[Read more]

They benefit from a bit of grease on the shaft (doesn’t everything).
Really helps with the return to maximum height.
( Wasn’t aware the pressue could be topped up: will look at that )

The Nicholas Crane Map Man episode is on Daily Motion:
The Contour Road books are fun. The original road atlas showing road gradients with notes on surface conditions. My first one is from 1890 with a chalk plate at the front for notes.

I have recently bought a Yamaha wxad10 Musicast for use on an old-school Hifi and it’s excellent.
(Way better than a Google Cast via the TV into the Hifi).
Only works on Spotify though, Amazon Music is apparently coming soon and I can’t get it to work on Google Music.
Intrigued by this as he’s a local lad and is an alumni of my son’s high school.
Hopefully it’s another name to be be removed from the Wall of Honour (There’s already a gap where a certain Clyde footballer’s name used to be).
My guess is he’ll be back for the second match…

Have a 3-yr old collie/springer cross.
Cats are her weakness. Every morning they get herded through the house and placed in front of their food bowl. The cats get ignored if they are asleep – sometimes.
Muttlee ignores sheep and can be recalled if ducklings launch in front of her ! (phew – I thought there was going to be carnage) but cats are…[Read more]
You might be better off rummaging around on Facebook.
That’s where the bulk of social rides are organised these days – in Stirling this is cetainly the case.
Scotland MTB Routes is a good starting place to enquire.

Local arty cinema screened this and it was sold out,
I feel your pain.
My dad left a mass of mint stamps in display envelopes. They are worth the face value, and nothing more, so my sister now uses them. Always fun to get a card from her.
Coins – you could try a coin shop or equivalent but we just gave my dad’s coins to my son. He’s now got a very impressive collection for an 11-yr old and often…[Read more]
