  • Ooh nasty HYD!

Off to Courchevel on Saturday…..can’t wait! I see the temps are dropping considerably and some snow forecast, so looking good!

  • I should have mentioned that I run a commercial interiors business, so we are often faced with sub floor issues, insulation/screed requirements. My advice is based on previous projects.

Regarding the ply….i’d suggest you don’t need anything special, but a 25mm structural ply will be fine over 600mm spaced battens/joists. Clearly you don’t…[Read more]

  • Maybe it’s just the editing?

It has to be massively edited, otherwise everyone would be asking why moley (no.21?) keeps getting pulled for a chat, when he’s breezing through all the various tests. It does seem odd that they focus so closely on a couple of them, when in the background you are seeing people leaving who have not even featured i…[Read more]

  • Just caught up on the first episode. How on earth did two people that couldn’t run uphill, get through the initial selection? Beyond belief!

  • I’d suggest you should rip it all out and insulate, then membrane and then concrete screed. That would be a proper job, but may cause floor level issues with adjacent areas?

Whatever you fit to has to be solid and level. You definitely need a membrane and now you are ripping up, at least some insulation, even if its only 25mm. However from the…[Read more]

Fillet steak + Good Malbec. As good as it gets. No hype if a good one.

Quite right….note the ‘if a good one’ comment! I like most of them, but have found some a bit overpowering. Some have also been a bit underwhelming for other reasons, but like any wine its all personal. No one has mentioned LIDL, but they have a couple of Argie…[Read more]

Building companies won’t build timber framed buildings…..certainly around where I live in Surrey. Nicknamed’Chicken Sheds’, they are poor quality compared to traditional brick construction and move a lot internally.

If you haven’t skied since you did once aged14, then you are an out an out beginner. I’d suggest ski lessons but they will be very expensive, so:

Watch youtube ski lessons to understand what you are aiming to do. (Over and over)

Try and book some group lessons on local dry slopes in UK to get something under your belt.

Try and arrange with you…[Read more]

    Well….

    Skiing is Ace
If you don’t do it, you’ll regret it forever
Hire skis/boots online pre trip from nearby ski hire places.
Fly from Manchester to Zurich/ share transfer.
Buy second hand ski gear from EBay

    Sorted!

  • Poor dim Harry never stood a chance! He married a woman who dumped her old friends and her Father, so it didn’t take long for her to split Harry from his brother, the Queen and now the UK.

She returned from the SA trip in which she saw hardship and poverty close up, but all she could talk about was….poor meeeee!

It might take a while, b…[Read more]

  • Rockape63 replied to the topic Mid life crisis car in the forum Chat Forum 1 week ago

Unfortunately, I found the whole experience disappointing, but not for obvious reasons. It was basically too fast to enjoy. I’d get to a clear stretch of road and put my foot down and within a few secs, was doing 90mph. Too fast, so had to back off or risk getting nicked or killing someone. I wouldn’t take on a track, so came to the con…

You sound just like me when I bought my 2014 RS4 in 2015. I had always wanted one and as I had the money, thought ‘why not’!

Quite right Bob, despite the past few years, it can be very patchy in December, so choose a resort you won’t be fretting about.

I haven’t been to Cervinia, but VT is excellent for that time of year and has good beginner areas. You could do a lot worse’

  • My wife’s Aunt is going skiing again this year in Courcheval and she’s 80.

I know a guy who took up skiing aged 60 when he retired and got the bug. He started doing about four weeks a year and five years later is a very accomplished skier.

  • I am going on my first skiing/boarding holiday for 20 years in March, Saalbach Hinterglemm. Struggled to find some suitable accommodation,

We left it late to book a lads trip to Saalbach In March and really struggled. We eventually found a place that I reckon could only have been a cancellation as it was perfect. so keep looking in case you…[Read more]

  • I’ve been buying Timberland boots and shoes for 30 years and the quality is still good. Trouble is they flip around with styles a lot and I’m a bit cross that I can’t buy the same waterproof/goretex chukkas I bought ten years ago. I still have them, but the latest version are quite different and not as comfortable.

I’m still a bit undecided about my vote direction this coming Thursday.

I’ve obviously taken into consideration what I consider to be the following swaying points on the two main parties.

On the one hand the Conservative Boris Johnson is a bit of a rascal with the ladies and can sometimes bend the truth a bit, he’s also a bit posh.

    And on t…[Read more]
