  • I used to have a few drivers flashing their lights on the road part of my commute. That was with a Hope R2 on lowest power, I think 600lm? Occasionally I’d forget and leave it on 1400 lm. Experimented with lowering the light, then under bar mounting, still seemed to have issues. Eventually got a Ravemen CR900 which has a road specific beam…[Read more]

  • Yep, in a big people carrier you’d get a few bikes, all the luggage and the batteries. 2 drivers to do a bit of wine tourism on the way and you’re good. To do it nicely you’d want a stopover each way.

  • There are some really nice places in Essex, it’s quite a big place! The strip along the Thames Esturary though, I wouldn’t see as a holiday destination 😉 I did grow up there but wouldn’t ever move back. It remains busy due to proximity to London and decent employment, but those are reasons to live there, not visit.

  • Yep, there will be a new contract to sign between the business and c2w. C2w scheme does not have a limit per se. This can be set by the employer but I think that’s as hoc rather than in the C2w contract (as your HR or scheme owner will sign off each voucher). Our limit is likely to be 1M pay, to minimise business risk.

Making the trails easier for me depends on where/what you ride. If a 29er makes it quicker but a bit more dull, I think I’d have more descending time and excitement. But that’s my local terrain, and a reason why I went to 29 and back to 27.5 on the main bike. If I’m living elsewhere where it’s a struggle on my ability just to get down a trail then…[Read more]

  • Yep, am not using 36×11 on the flat, not with bloody DH tyres on! It’s all about intended use. Mine is 99% local and there aren’t any bits I’d need a granny gear for. Might regret the gearing on a Welsh trip, but I’ll be back home before my calves can say OW. Motivation is also related to durability. Having destroyed a couple of rear mechs, am…[Read more]

  • Had a levo for 18 months. Mine is 36 up front, was spinning out on descents a lot, could go up to 38t. Now has 1×10 drivetrain with a Saint mech, 11-34 cassette. That’s enough for anything I’m climbing regularly, just TURBO up the climbs 😉

Payment terms for Cycle2Work seemed ok when I looked at them, think it was 60 days, or if you ran a time limited scheme payment due after the scheme closed. So run it for 11 months and pay for your vouchers in month 12. IANAL though, think you will need one if you intend to run your own scheme above 1k

  • RichPenny replied to the topic Cycle scheme help in the forum Bike Forum 2 weeks ago

To offer over £1k pretty sure your business would need to be FCA approved as you’re providing credit to your employees. Does not look like a quick process, and has costs attached. This is what prevented most firms from offering above the £1k limit. The guidance changed recently to confirm that the credit agreement is now between the employee and t…[Read more]

When you say self administer, you mean the business will run their own scheme and “hire” the bike to the employee? In this case, you would need to be FCA approved to offer above £1k as I understand it. I do have Cycle2Work employers documentation relating to the £1k limit removal if that clarifies it?

If you just mean using one of the existing s…[Read more]

  • Done, would travel to Bath if this was decent.

  • As above, there aren’t that many decent legal routes. And it’s pretty boggy in a lot of places. Am happy to ride cheeky myself, but given the unwelcoming attitude and restrictions, almost never ride in the forest despite living within 10 miles since 2002. In your position, I’d be considering an alternative somewhere around Cranborne Chase, where…[Read more]

Sadly for many of us, pie geometry hasn’t changed in decades; a tendency to round 🙁 Great point though, my 15yr old full suss does now feel a bit like a toy.

  • I work for a group that includes Focal, a hi-end French speaker manufacturer who also make hi-end in car speakers, amps and DSP. Spoke to their install team when I wanted one, they recommended a Pioneer PH-DA230DAB. It does what you want, but specifically it has auto EQ which is why the install team rated it. This uses a mic to work out the best…[Read more]

I would say less so in the early 90’s Chapaking, since back then line level sources would be similar in significance. Still, the signal levels in a phono pre mean you’re better off isolating it as far as possible.

Gunz, mine have been planar 2, planar 3 and an rp6. Just go and listen to a p3, either you walk away with a new deck or spare cash for…[Read more]

Nice 🙂 Have had 3 rega decks, simple to set up, bulletproof and sound great. Would definitely recommend moving to an external phono stage. Not saying there’s anything wrong with your amp but in the design phase I would expect the phono stage to be a nice to have addition rather than something engineered in from the start, IYSWIM. Get the…[Read more]

The key point which Jonesyboy has nailed is the root cause leading to higher risk behaviour from his son. I agree with you, the depression angle could be something they’ve concocted as a group excuse. I think helping him to find a peer group away from drugs would be the key. Spending time on the road with you won’t solve the problem that he’s…[Read more]
