  • To me it seems the inference here (and from others on this thread, the one about CA at the time and many other threads) seems to be the cyclist shouldn’t be prosecuted because motorists aren’t, rather than that everyone should be investigated and, where at fault, prosecuted to the fullest extent possible when someone is killed.

    Yes in a per…[Read more]

I found Specialized Sawtooth very good on gravel and very tough. Not too heavy (38c is 500g and 43c is 600g) but I didn’t have a single puncture with them and where I ride I have punctured everything but a Marathon Plus (Armadillos, Continental Plus, Randonneur etc,.).

Also using DT R460 which I have ridden around 2,000 miles of gravel and off road running high pressure narrowish tyres and all is fine. A nice, low price rim.

  • What sort of person does that.

Somebody who doesn’t give a shit about other people. You will find quite a few of them in this country…

It is the speed that is the issue not the effort required. If it is dangerous to ride above 15mph on a cyclepath then put a speed limit of 15 mph on it. The type of bike is irrelevant as all bikes can go 25mph

I think they are adopting extreme positions for aerodynamics rather than to lower CoG. If you are used to having a dropper and use it every 5 minutes then can see your problem. I never get off my seat for all the riding I do (but that is different as I ride fixed and riding fixed standing up is just odd – other than uphill)

There is a bigger question here about how the press behaves, full stop

Well there was a 3 year enquiry which the Tories then bottled….

All other things being equal, I wonder what possible difference there could be between them to result in such a treatment?

Kate keeps herself to herself and hardly ever talks. Meghan gobs off about stuff.

Kate is following the “How to be a good Royal” handbook.

I think support of Royal family is getting less each decade and they are becoming more irrelevant. As each older generation goes there will be even less support. Kicking off and putting yourself in the spotlight even more is not going to help that support.

I suspect that the folk who set the. Limit probably have access to this data which is probably why they allow bikes to do more than 15.5mph but make them distinguishable from bicycles so that it’s clear who is flaunting the law.

I doubt it, 25kph sounds like a nice round number (i.e why not 23, 24, 26) and is probably arbitrary more than a…[Read more]

  • Well the country is apparently fed up with Brexit and just want it ‘done’ so no need to really look in any detail at anything now.

Buying a bike out the shop and going 20mph every where on tap with no effort is a recipe for stupid

as is buying a bike that does 15.5mph everywhere on tap with no effort. I wouldn’t want to get hit by either of them…

The royal family have a political role – he was born not just into privilege but also
    into power

The Queen or King yes, 5th in line to throne not really.

stuck 28mm GP4000s and mud guards on it, but still rides well off road on tracks.

It would do, 28 is fine for gravel. A large tyre really isn’t needed as much as most assume.
Admittedly the larger tyre will give more comfort and feeling of security but I don’t find any grip issues. I am even happy riding a 23c on gravel as I don’t tend to be…[Read more]

I therefore have some sympathy with them, but they can’t have it both ways. They may face a choice: pay their own way and have more privacy, or take tax payers’ money and accept press intrusion.

Agree. They could also have kept their heads down and ignored everything just as the queen or prince Phillip have done for decades. Get on with the ‘jo…[Read more]

Is the point not to give a bit of assistance to those who when riding with other struggle to keep up a bit on the ups.

If you are struggling to keep up on the ups then presumably the same person would also struggle to keep up on the flats when they top out at 15.5mph?

The use cases for an e road bike are clearly fewer than for an e MTB as 15.5…[Read more]

  • Mongoose BMXs were not really that good. The Supergoose was okay but when compared to other BMX’s at the time they were heavy and not very exciting. Realise they were a mass producer but other mass producers made better bikes (i.e. GT, Diamond Back) with smaller scale producers making much nicer bikes (i.e. Robinson, Hutch)

I live in a place where the trails could be described as very boring. If I was to find riding where I live boring it would be equally as boring on an MTB or a gravel bike.

My choice of bike is based on my preference for a rigid and very light bike because it is nicer and faster to ride than a heavier MTB on the same terrain and it is faster…[Read more]

Agree. Im my experience with a lot of different bikes and configurations all ridden on gravel the tyres and bars are the things that matter. That choice also dictates the riding I do.
When running flat bars I also favour more technical and slower stuff whereas when I put on drops I tend to favour less technical and faster stuff and tend to keep…[Read more]

They are great for wider well drained paths (pretty much what they are made for) They are even better in summer when the path are drier and faster but still good in winter on wet gravel.

The key thing will be whether you get on with drop bars as you have never owned a road bike.
