@garry_lager Typically I’ve always done NYMBO and West Coast in the winter but not in the last couple of years due to family stuff. Midlands MBO put on some good events as well as Black Mountains MBO, but that’s a bit of track for me, although there’s some cracking riding.

Good luck at Shrewsbury @Garry_Lager – does anyone know if the nat champs are being televised this year like they have in the past?

I raced Western League yesterday after a few weeks of overindulgence, although the gluttony didnt seem to affect racing that much. Had a cracking day out on a really fun course in the cotswolds, a bit greasy to start…[Read more]

  • @Garry_Lager – I didn’t quite write what I meant!

An FTP value is only relevant to a particular bike setup in a particular environment. You’ll have a different FTP outdoors to indoors. You’ll have a different FTP on a road bike when compared to a TT bike.

That’s not to say it isn’t useful, it most definitely is! When you’ve several…[Read more]

@Garry_Lager – Mon MTB rides are pretty steady to be honest, so I’m rarely (if ever) trying to go flat out.  I do generally feel like I’m working hard though, especially if I’ve commuted on the same day too.  I do know that when I have to go flat out (I do a few enduros a year), I generally hit the rev limiter pretty quickly (though I’ve always p…[Read more]

@Garry_Lager cheers; results in and 14th. I’m pleased enough with that. I’ve seen some insta pics from Towneley park. Fuck that. I’ve raced in similar slop a few years back at Caerphilly Mountain Ranch and it was horrendous even on a singlespeed. Well done for sticking it.
@ferrals I was surprised to see you to be honest, figured it wasn’…[Read more]

    Cheers @shedbrewed

@Garry_Lager – I find it jsut depends on how the race strings out, its that point when you realise the guys in front have too big a gap and there’s no-one directly behind you that I find the pain really sets in! If i’m in a bunch then concentration/fear of loosing places means the pain doesnt seem so bad. Sundays HR trace was…[Read more]

They didn’t 80% the V40 the day before, which I was glad of.
Are you coming down to race the Welsh champs @Garry_Lager ?

  • ferrals replied to the topic Cross 19/20 in the forum Bike Forum 1 month ago

@Garry_Lager – i don’t really have issue with the 80% rule, it meant I went harder than I normally would and pushed everywhere I could. Good to be forced to approach a race differently and to be honest it was a relief to be pulled after 20 minutes in the red 🤣. Standard was amazing, different level completely. Well worth doing.

@Garry_Lager I think the tub was suffering from a couple of very wet races previously and after I dropped a fair bit of pressure from it to try and find grip on the mud it was end of days. The cleat though, that pissed me off.
@ferrals yup, learn from it and move on. Vet 40 field is a fair size and the course is a nip shy of 2 miles per lap so I…[Read more]

  • @whitestone – thnaks I hadnt seen the maintneance plan before being tucked away in enthusiast, some savage ones in there! I am on a bit of a panic training week with my first crack at a Natiaonl trophy coming up in a couple of weeks.

@Garry_Lager Ansel Adams could be a go… or at least the -1 versioN! Not really sure what my power profile is tbh.

@Garry_Lager the SuperX as odd rear wheel dishing/offset so although it’s a lovely bike with good mud clearance you will struggle to get off the shelf wheels for it. As someone who goes to my friendly local wheel builder this wouldn’t be an issue but others may vary.
As for groupset; I prefer Shimano over SRAM given a choice but my race bike is…[Read more]
