  • On unlit roads, high power and poorly aimed bike lights are effectively blinding, it’s dangerous for the rider and the driver. High power strobe and flashing light are as bad. Trouble is that lights for off-road, urban, unlit, and daytime all require different strength, beam patterns and flashing or not. If you’re doing short stretches of road…[Read more]

A surprising 1kg off this week, in 2 figure for the first time in 6 months. I’ve had no alcohol and no processed food, haven’t managed to do much exercise. Homemade flapjacks using dates and Benecol has been my snack of choice, so easy to make. I’m getting bored of lime and soda or tonic water though.

I was pleasantly surprised by slimming world when my wife was on it for a while. We still use lots of the recipes. The currys are particularly good.

Our 1 and 4 year olds will eat most things as long as it’s not spicy. The oldest may decide she doesn’t want something on the plate one day but will live it a few days later. Their nursery has a chef which helps as some nurseries and most schools have awful outsourced slop. Because we also eat all meals together as a family, obviously for some…[Read more]

I’ve used it on and off for a few years to tray and learn Danish, it does work to a degree but a couple of things could be improved. 1- When having to write and answer in the language spelling needs to be 100% correct, I’d prefer a margin of error. I want to learn to speak not to write it perfectly. 2 – There is no option to slow the phrase down,…[Read more]

6 days in and diet-wise it’s going well. No sweet things or other unhealthy snacks. No alcohol either. 1kg lost already with barely any exercise.

Cheers Rob, my starting weight is in, hopefully I’ll not plateau after 3 weeks and then give up as I did last year.
I am listed twice by the way, so you can delete the second. It’s probably because I emailed and PM’d.

  • I use BBC TV and radio 6 a lot. CBeebies is great babysitter! I used to use the website for news but since the Tories messed with it has gone downhill.
The license covers the IPlayer too so even if like may you don’t watch live TV you still require it. I’ve always been a great supporter of the BBC, having see the alternatives. However, C4 shows…[Read more]

Yes, not to give my liver a rest but just to reset my drinking levels back after January to 3 nights a week rather than every night of December.

  • We got the kids Huawei M3 lites for Christmas. Only £120 for 32GB storage and 3GB ram plus SD file storage (not apps). Build quality seems really good and screen image quality is brilliant for the money.

  • At this rate Liverpool will have the League down up before the Champions League starts up again. I’m almost disappointed at the lack of competition.

    61 rides, nearly all gravel
    1300 miles
My worst for 11 years but that’s what 2 young kids and a unsympathetic wife does.
The effect it’s had on my physical and mental health has not been good. My new year’s resolution as a co-owner of a bike related company is to ride more during traditional work hours.

Possible suggestion, is there a way you could do the data collection via a survey (survey monkey etc), (same two questions every week, username, weight) get the output of that as an .xls file, then a simple bit of VBA, or just use vlookup to transfer, would save you having to type out everyones data every week.

Last year it was Google sheet I…[Read more]

Currently sitting in the GP waiting room for my yearly checkup.
102kg and rising, 10kg up on 10 years ago. Since child no2 arrived at the end of last year.
I’m out of my checkout and as suspected by cholesterol has rocketed to 6.4. I was offered statins but would rather try and change my diet first

  • For those of us who are able-bodied relocating is daunting enough. Unless you haven’t got one I imagine it would be better to stay here and have a support network.

We’re fortunate in that my wife is Danish and our girls have dual nationality so we do have an option even if it’s not as simple as just moving. My wife would actually rather move to…[Read more]

Thankfully my kids have dual British Danish nationality, most others don’t have that option.
I’m n my mid 40s and I don’t know if I have the energy to move to Denmark with all that entails but I’m certainly more open to it.

And me. I’ve done the least amount of cycling for about 15 years so it’s no surprise that I have SAD for the first time ages Getting outside really helps but even though I know that I’m struggling to get out the door.
Having pre-school kids doesn’t help either. The eldest stayed at my parents this weekend gone, first time, it was bliss.

So I’ve just come back from a meeting with a company in Peterborough, who at 24 hour notice was asked if they would host Pritty Patel’s electioneering speech. It’s a high-tech company involved in additive manufacture which no doubt the government are selling as our savour when we leave the EU. The irony is that many of the people working in the…[Read more]
