  • That paradox thing is to the Socom motor what flat mount is to a bent fork.

  • There’s a bloke round us with an old Intense Socom with, what looks like, a washing machine motor strapped to the down tube, a rucksack full of batteries and a throttle. Doesn’t really bother me tbf, which is weird as he does cover the trails in tiny moto ruts.

As someone who teaches 11 year olds to solder, any old multicore will do, but lead free is a bit more fiddly. We use boggo Rapid stuff from Rapid, recently switched from leaded to lead-free. Only real difference is lead-free has a higher melting point, so if you’re using a small tip (stores less heat), it can take a little longer to get a good…[Read more]

  • I’m having a spat of chopping and changing.

Swapped out my old Line 6 Spider for a Blackstar ID 30 TVP. The spider was great when I was 14, but my tastes have moved on a bit. Very impressed, it’s got some lovely dynamics, like you’d expect from a valve amp, but I can sling it in the boot with reckless abandon.

Been meaning to upgrade my acoustic…[Read more]

  • I tried the Fox Flexair ones on in Cyclesurgery this weekend and found the cut really weird. Incredibly tight at the ankle (could only just get over my feet) and kinda flappy in places I didn’t want them to be. Also, it’d be nice to get a fly zip for £100 :/

We’ve booked a cheap hotel/flight combo in Encamp this year, we’ll get the big Funicamp lift and plop out in the middle of the ski area. From what I see, looks like a sizeable little town.

Had a day in Soldieu last year, it’s quite a small place and the bar we went in was full of nobheads. Skiing was amazing though.

  • andeh replied to the topic One Up stem preloader thing… in the forum Bike Forum 1 month ago

Looking at the assembly video, it does sit in its own little space at the bottom of the stem, but surely you could just stick it under a normal one?

The preload with a bung idea is good, but I’d worry it’d come loose with no way of re-preloading.

It’s the interface of the tool with the top cap that I think is critical to stop it from rattling,…[Read more]

  • Any reason you shouldn’t use the preloader band thing from a One Up stem on a different stem?

Don’t really want to cut a thread into my steerer or buy the One Up stem, so using just the preloader, which is available separate, seems reasonable. Only problem I foresee is connecting the top cap….not even sure how it fits in with the stem system…[Read more]
