Did about 4 hrs on gravel bike yesterday , 90 % off road , it was very muddy. I was sliding and wheel spinning all over on Schwalbe G Ones, which came with the bike. Has anyone got any suggestion for a reasonable priced tyre that copes with mud .

  • I’ve had some Fiziks that only had one Boa dial plus one Velcro strap and they seem to gradually work loose . Does a double Boa dial stay at the tension you fasten it to or do they also work loose?

  • Keep wondering if the laces will get caught in the chain wheel teeth or are they really short .

  • I’ve had old school lace up, Velcro straps, ratchets and Boa dials. In the market for a new pair of shoes (road), currently fancying Velcro straps , I find them pretty good for adjusting tension, especially with three straps. What are your thoughts and can you recommend any , thanks .

I have a Renault Kadjar which has parking sensors fitted. Mrs Alongo is not very confident parking the car even with the sensors, has anyone got any recommendations for aftermarket cameras fitting. I think you can get Renault to retrofit the cameras used in the higher model for around £600 but wondered if there are any diy good quality kits out…[Read more]

Just fancy a change really , a bit more tyre clearance would be good.Had an Aithein, bit stiff for long rides, so comfort is important, although Ycr is not bad. Current frame is a great fit too and when I get back on it after a decent break I always think why am I thinking of changing it.To be honest it’s far more of a bike than i am as a rider,…[Read more]

I have a Giant TCR SL which is great , it’s been put away for winter since mid October so haven’t rode it in a while, mostly Zwifting .I am having thoughts of replacing it for a change but not convinced I could do better and may regret it.Probably stick to rim brakes for summer. Ideas popping into my head are Trek Emonda, Canondale Caad 13. It…[Read more]

What’s it like for a weekend break? I remember this years Giro prologue going up the SAN Luca climb with what looked like arcades all the way up and thought it looked a place worth visiting. Has anyone been, what else does Bologna have to offer.

Thanks simondbarnes , think I’m getting my head round it now. I’ve got the tools required to swap the rotors round . I think I will go with 160 front , 140 rear then it’s just a case of switching wheels when necessary. So , no need to touch the fork , the rear needs the plate taking out which is 6 or 7 mm thick . Will I need shorter bolts or will…[Read more]

I cant figure out how to load pics. Forks look like I just need to swap adaptor which says 160 top on outside. The rear is also on an adaptor plate but not showing any numbers.

  • alongo replied to the topic 160 to 140 rotors. in the forum Bike Forum 1 month ago

Thinking about it , if I make both wheels : 160 front and 140 rear it will just be a case of a straight swap whenever I change the wheels. If this sounds feasible I just have the rear adaptor to sort out – will it just flip round to fit 140 , cheers .

I have just acquired a nice spare set of wheels for my gravel bike to use on the road. The bike is fitted with Shimano GRX brakes with 160 mm rotors , the new wheels have Shimano ice tech 140 mm rotors. I weigh 70 kg and feel the 140 mm will be fine on the road.
Is it just a case of flipping the post mount bracket round the other way to accomadate…[Read more]

  • Interested in this thread . Just got a Cube Nuroad Race with Cubes own RA .8 wheels on. I am wanting a spare set so I can have one set up with gravel tyres and one with road tyres. If I bought the suggested Shimano RS 170 @ £120 , which , if any would suit road and gravel best. Also, can you recommend a decent cheapest centrelock 160 mm rotor.

  • I’m running a 105 , 5800 Stages 4iii with an Ultegra R8000 crankset, it’s fine. I do have a related query though, just bought a gravel bike with Shimano GRX on and was wandering if this would work ok as the Q factor is supposed to be 2.5 mm wider each side. Will it work or won’t it , I know I could just try it but if anyone could confirm I’d a…[Read more]

  • I am a new to gravel bikes and a roadie , never really done mtb’s. Went out yesterday in Santini big tights and a Castelli Perfetto top with base layer. Seemed to work well enough but I’m not too keen on getting expensive jackets caked in mud every ride , so , i was wandering how everyone else dresses for those half road half muddy paths etc.

  • alongo replied to the topic Gravel bike pedals. in the forum Bike Forum 1 month ago

Is there any difference in feel to the more expensive ones , I have the super cheap ones, which are ok , just wandered if it was worth investing in better quality.

Went out for first ride on my new Cube Nuroad Race yesterday. Really enjoyed it even though I got a puncture on first ride! Some of the lanes were pretty muddy and I was riding in Look Keos, not great when I had to get off bike. I have sold and this k I’ll swap over to them. What do you use for your gravel riding?

Has anyone tried them yet ( alloy versions ) , noticed you can buy them separately now so was wandering if they do offer the compliance they claim to or is it just a snake oil claim .
