It has been announced that the 3 Peaks Cyclo-Cross Race has been cancelled for 2020 due to COVID-19. The Race Organiser issued this statement on the event website:
Cancellation of 3 Peaks Cyclo-Cross 27th September 2020
The 2020 edition of the 3 Peaks Cyclo-Cross is cancelled as a result of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. This decision has been reached by the organising group in the interest of the local community, competitors, spectators and the general public alike. It is also the right decision to safeguard future editions of the race.
There are many factors that have been taken into account and the outcome is a considered decision.
The 58th edition of the race will be scheduled for Sunday 26th September 2021.
The race is a major training and fundraising event for the Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team who provide safety and medical support. The team would appreciate any donations that competitors may choose to make in lieu of the race entry fee. A donation can be made direct at the team’s JustGiving Page.
27th May 2020
Reaction on social media has been mostly supportive of the decision. No doubt this morning there are a few folks wondering what goal they’re going to line up instead to keep them focused (and anxious!) through September.
While many will have had the event in mind, the entries weren’t due to open until 1st June, so making the call now on cancellation will save some headaches on refunds or uncertainty later. The event has run every year from 1961, except for during the Foot and Mouth outbreaks of 2001 and 2007.
