Getting Social With Cyclocross in Scotland

by 0

A new event on the Scottish ‘cross calendar, SocialCross, will be held on the 2nd of July at Glengorm Castle on the Isle of Mull. It will be a shortened lap of the Cross at the Castle event held in December which is one of the highlights of the Scottish CX series.
With six races held over the afternoon, everyone gets to race three times. The races will be approx 30 mins with a break in the middle of the races for the children’s races. Basically, everyone will race everyone else at least once and then an overall winner can be announced.
There are no prizes, it’s a social race right, but everyone is asked to bring a prize worth £3 to give out at the dance at night. Yup a dance at night with some ceilidh action for everyone to get to know each other a bit better before the Sunday social rides.
Sunday will see a spot, probably hungover, gravel riding to a lunch stop. Pace is going to be kept at a leisurely rate, with a couple of different distances on offer across a whole heap of forest roads on Mull.
With new super-cheap ferry prices, the Scottish government has introduced RET to the ferries making it less than £30 for a car and two return to Mull, the once awkward to get to race has pretty much given itself no reason not to go to it.
Entries are open on Entry Central and more info can be got by giving Davie Graham a shout through the Scottish CX site.
