Morvélo Citycross #4, York – The Sweetest Yet?

by 0

There’s less than two weeks to go before the fourth incarnation of the popular ‘cross-meets-crit series hits York at the historic Rowntree Park on Saturday 13th June.
For the uninitiated, Morvélo Citycross takes the core elements of cyclocross, fast paced racing, technical on/off-road parcours and barrels of fun, shoehorning it into non-traditional, more urban environments.

With steps, berms, ramps and bridges it’s not just the course that breaks the tradition. ‘Cross mould, races are held in ‘motos’ or heats with riders gunning it over just twenty minutes to secure a place in the top half going forward to the next round.
Curly and flat barred bikes are equally welcome, and the gladiatorial battle builds during the day with multiple motos for women, senior men, veteran men, novices, youth and juniors. Youngsters don’t miss out having their own under-8s, 10s and 12s races over the less-demanding parts of the course.
Within the tight and sinuous track, spectators will literally be at the centre of the action ,so cowbells and other noise-makers are an absolute essential! Tip in artisan food, drink, DJs, trade stands, beer hand-ups (for ‘grown ups’ only) and the opportunity to ‘race your mates’ the Morvélo Citycross promises a sweet day of summer CX racing, recovering, watching and hopefully racing again.
If previous the versions of Morvélo Citycross are anything to go by, the racing will be challenging, wild and intense, the prize list uniquely generous and the atmosphere electric. We’ll see you there, perhaps on the start line!
