Frostbike 2015 Round Up Part 2 – All-City Cycles

by 0

All City Cycles, also known as the #partybrand, continues to take ‘cross seriously, with a number of updates to their already well-rounded bike lineup.

Macho King
All City Cycles Frostbike 2015
Riders spoke up, drivetrains have changed, and the All-City product team took note, making some changes to the Macho King for the upcoming race season. The King retains the Reynolds 853 tubes and carbon fork, but moves the cables and disc brake mount and adds a replaceable hanger for when it all goes wrong. The previous iteration of the Macho King featured a clean and clear top tube with downtube rear derailleur and brake routing and an internal front derailleur cable path via a full length brass tube, but as single ring drivetrain setups continue to gain wide acceptance All-City killed the internal routing and moved the rest of the cables to the top of the top tube. The more traditional top tube routing required the disc brake to move to the seatstay, which also helped solve a seldom reported issue of brake caliper heel strike from particularly snowshoe footed people. The really detail oriented take note; the cable housing will run on the top of the seatstays rather than the underside as in this prototype image. Fender mounts remain for those avoiding the skunk-stripe. Approximately $2800 USD complete as pictured, or $1250 USD as a frameset. Projected availability is mid-summer 2015.

Macho Disc

The Macho Disc remains in the line-up, and gets a new red to white fade paint job and a significant spec upgrade to an 11-speed Shimano 105 drivetrain, cassette and all. Think lighter weight and better shifting performance than the mixed-spec drivetrain of the older orange model. Same Reynolds 631 tubes and geometry as before. Race or epic ride ready out of the box, add some lighter hoops down the road if you care about the scale and rip it. Complete bikes as shown will retail for $1800 USD.

Macho Man
All City Cycles Frostbike 2015
Fancy yourself a luddite? Have too much wrapped up in wheels to make the switch to disc? Just prefer the look of rim calipers? The original rim brake Macho Man is back as a frameset only with three color fade paint that somehow isn’t gaudy. Rim brake ‘cross choices are dwindling and no telling if this one will make it another year the way the winds are blowing, might want to pick one up sooner than later if it’s your preferred flavor. $599 USD for the frameset.

Nature Boy 853
All City Cycles Frostbike 2015
Unlike the other bikes and frames that will be available mid-summer, the Nature Boy 853 is in stock right now for your single speeding pleasure. Check the spec with those Tektro Hylex hydraulic disc brakes and their extended hoods. By all reports the hoods are plenty comfortable if a bit unorthodox looking — you may find you need a slightly shorter stem to offset the extra length. $2250 USD complete as shown with the matching Whisky carbon fork, or $1250 USD for a roll your own frameset.
