I frequently use lecture notes available on the web to update myself with scientific topics that I need to learn about – I just wondered if anybody has had any experiences with using Youtube for the same purposes? worth getting the filter unblocked for this?

Which area are you interested in?

I would use journals myself-depending on the topic.

Journals keep to up to date with current state of the science sure, but I use lecture notes as a primer for things like: need to find out a bit more about fractals, or, what is the analytical solution to a system of chains of first order decay etc etc

The idea never even crossed my mind! Interesting. Mind you there are so many junk ideas thrown around on youboob

Hmm.. I use some of the podcasts that are available in iTunes University, but not YouToob.

Every time I read the comments on YouTube I can feel my IQ dropping.

LOL, how very true. It does worry me the number of people who post on youboob who seem to be utterly clueless, racist and/or just particularly vacuous.
