As we have lost a couple of the greats recently, I though it nice to spark a few memories of the great ivory tinklers.

My top 5:
Jon Lord (Deep Purple)

Ray Manzarek (Doors)

I’ve listened to this many times recently.

Dave Greenfield (Stranglers)

Rick Wakeman (Yes)

Jerry Lee Lewis (he started this all off!)
Try and keep a straight face when you see this:
He was/is a nutter!

The original swivel-eyed loon!

During the above videos, I challenge you not to play ‘air keyboard’!

I’ll throw one in from the left field here:

Tony Banks from Genesis. Check out Suppers Ready on side two of Foxtrot.

Ooooh, definitely agree that Jon Lord is one of the best. Also Rick Wakeman (I was at the live recording of Journey to the Centre of the Earth).

Does Jools fit into this category or not?

Rick Wakeman
Keith Emerson
Rick Wright
John’s keyboards on Fireball are one of the rock world’s best examples of the Hammond in full flight, gets me into an ‘air keyboard’ frenzy every time I hear it, and it’s been played by 6Music several times recently… 😳

Rock shouldn’t have keyboards. It’s the law.
