A mate of mine’s band – The 48K’s from Doncaster – have just released one of the most unashamedly old-school catchy Christmas records you’re ever likely to hear; give it a listen, you won’t be disappointed:

I gave it a listen, I was dissappointed. Sorry, it’s not a patch on Slade

I looked at the picture. I couldn’t bring myself to click the triangle. Sorry.

Think you are giving it too high a rating there Winston.
I don’t suppose they even have day jobs to fall back on.

I don’t have one, there all shite,

From a songwriters point of view, if you write a successful one, it’s the gift that keeps giving.

On topic-ish – I thought Ellie Goulding’s Burn sounded quite Xmassy but was released way too early.

Can she fart the tune to Jingle Bells?

I didn’t say I liked it, just that it had a Xmas-type sound.

However, I reckon her career will have longevity if she learns to fart any tune…

There’s nothing like a good Christmas tune… And that was nothing like a good Christmas tune. Appalling.

    I prefer this:

And you posted the video just in case we don’t get to hear it enough over the next few months? 😉

Hmm, that’s really quite ‘average’ at best. Sounded a bit like the Wombles.

Nope, it’s nowhere near a favourite

A few years ago I would have agreed, John, but that poor thing has been played to death, buried and left in peace, then dug up and played over and over and again until any dusty, rotting remnents of soul and passion have been utterly wrung from it.

I used to like the Waitresses one (I’m sure you don’t need the video). But I walked into Boots yesterday and it was playing. I just said “Oh shite, they’re playing Christmas songs already!” So even that’s just become an annoyance.

OK, you’re all off my Christmas card list apart from piedi di formaggio… but only because he said it sounded like the Wombles.

Dez, you didn’t have to play the video…

It’s not any worse than most of the stuff out there imho. Vocals are way to far back in the mix and bucket loads of reverb doesn’t fix that.
In the end though it’s a Christmas song so I’m already biased against it

Not horrible but just a bit dull, no Christmas cheer or Christmas angst or anything to distinguish it from an Aldi Christmas sound track.

I like the bit where he says “We are full of christmas cheer” in a voice that makes it seem more like he’s full of christmas suicidal urges.

My favourite Christmas songs are generally ones that don’t make a big thing about Christmas, although I do like The Waitresses’ song, and Greg Lake’s ‘I Believe In Father Christmas’, ‘cos it’s so downbeat.
    Favourites:
    Joni Mitchell – ‘The River’
    The Staves – ‘Winter Trees’
Laura Marling – ‘Goodbye England (Covered In Snow)’
Fleet Foxes – ‘White Winter Hymnal’

    The only worth while one…

    Greg Lake.

With no link, cos as has been said already, we’re going to have cheery xmas songs played at us for the next 5 weeks or so…

Nope – thats fairly ordinary. Cross between Bay City Rollers and the Top Gear theme.
