    Afternoon all.

I’m on the hunt for a new iron (of the garment decreasing type).

What’s the STW weapon of choice? (Be it used by yourself, your significant other, or your staff).

    Ta in advance.

After years of buying bling irons, I’ve renewed my last all singing & dancing boutique “clothes management system” with an Asda George £8 jobbie steam iron.
The clothes look just as ironed and the steam is the same temperature …

Got a Bosch one with separate water tank, been pretty good apart from the huge on / off breakjng but spares were easy to get and it took 5 mins to replace. Personally I prefer one with the separate tank, more steam for longer and the iron is lighter. I do use it quite a bit as I like my clothes ironed which doesn’t seem that fashionable any more.

I use two of these, heat them atop my stove, one being heated whilst the other is in use, swap over when it cools. Takes a bit longer but I prefer the finish.

Expensive irons that I’ve bought have lasted no longer than cheaper ones, yes, looking at you Bosch. Previous iron lasted 3 years. Irons and kettles have a short working life it would seem. 😐

Buy cheap, buy twice and repeat then rather than buy expensive, buy twice and then buy cheap.

I recommend you buy any old iron. Any old iron, any, any, any old iron.
You’ll look neat. Talk about a treat!
You’ll look so dapper from your napper to your feet.
    Dressed in style, brand-new tile,
And your father’s old green tie on.
But I wouldn’t give you tuppence for your old watch and chain,
    Old iron, old iron.

    Things to look for:

    1. Good cable management system (flexible ball connection type)
    2. Big light saying it’s on !
    3. Decalcification button thingy

    Philips does the job.

People who have the big separate water tank steam thing swear by them

    Tefal steam generator thingy.

My parents do alof of ironing.

Tefal one has lasted longest by far.

    1) buy clothes that don’t need ironing.

    2) if you can’t abide by 1), I got a Bosch which is great. It’s a man’s steam iron, even comes in black rather than pastel shades, go Full Metal Jacket on those creases.

@Cougar. Point 2 above was exactly the kind of recommendation I was looking for. Many thanks.

Brita maxtra filter water in the tank keeps things running longer in the Sandwich house. I am not allowed near the device because I don’t produce the same results as herself. (I’m not going to argue).

Pressurised steam generator iron. Genuinely has cut the time we spend ironing. Which can only be a good thing. Ours is a morphy Richards.

That if you have a lot of ironing to get through. It is way better

If it’s just the occasional shirt then anything will do but again I like the Bosch ones for needing less cleaning

I recently bought a new steam generator from a local refurb place.

It was 65 i think. – just looked on ebay for others and they are around £200.

Plus points of this one (possibly all generator ones)
Seems quicker as the steam is trigger generated, rather than gravity fed water falling onto plate to warm up

This one has the option of bypassing the generator bit if you just want to iron a couple of things too.

If you can find this one I do recommend, but the prices seem a little high.
