A short while ago it was Blonde Redhead. Now it’s Arcade Fire. It could be Elbow next. Or Stars. Or The Beatles. Or possibly Metric.

Last month it was Modest Mouse.

This month: Arcade Fire The Suburbs, for a week or so at least.

Depends who I’ve just seen live but it’s always either Biffy Clyro, the Wildhearts, or Muse. The Wildhearts were one of the first bands I ever listened to though and they’ve been with me most of my life so maybe they’d win in a Neighbours-esque tug of love with me cast as Bouncer. Then again Biffy are the only ones with their ink in my skin so, maybe not.

<edit- chosen Biffy video places a huge swear word across the screen  >

For me, it changes a lot and I find something that I love for a while (recently The Flashbulb/Benn Jordan).

But what is best is something that’s shared so it’s bands that me and my son both like that really does it. For that, this year it’s been Mumford and Sons and Biffy Clyro. We play the albums to death in the car but learn the songs and play and sing our own arrangements of them. In fact we’ve got a good hour party set of those two bands songs – just need the party to play them at.

Northwind – have you got your Hogmanay tickets? Biffy are my favourite band to send a big **** off to bad year. Me and the boy will be there.

Nah, I’ll be elsewhere for hogmanay but I was pretty tempted, should be a great night. Not been the same up town since it went ticketed though.

Not only a great track, but proof that you CANNOT overdose on dope and some suggestions for the Office fancy dress party. 😀

    It’s the Wedding Present.

Of the bands I like, I don’t think they’re the best, or the most important (probably give that to The Smiths) but they’re still my favourite.

i would have to say nine inch nails (trent reznor).the downward spiral is one of the best albums ever in my opinion.through suffering with long term depression, his music has helped me out through some tough times.a fantastic composer,no one does white/black noise (if that makes any sense?)quite the way he does.but he can also do incredibly beautiful pieces as well (a warm place for example.i want that played at my funeral) an amazing musician. 🙂

After I first heard ‘A Farewell to Kings’ a couple of years after it’s release in ’79 I’ve been a lifelong RUSH enthusiast.

🙂 good work on Animals as Leaders, nice guy, you seen some of his videos?

if you like him then check out “chimp spanner” another solo guy doing Djent-y style instrumentals, and a stupidly nice guy too. currently depping on guitar for another good band called monuments (ex fell silent)

i thought it would be impossible to pick 1 favourite band, but thinking long and hard about it i’d have to say “Textures”, VERY happy i got to share a stage with them before i left the music business!

Right now, today, Arcade Fire…but could be Arctic Monkeys, older REM…just depends…

Just one? Undertones. Happily life’s not like that. Radio has just played Chumbawamba, Sparks, Donna Summer and Cardiacs in a row and I’m happy.

Rage Against The Machine, I think. However Count Basie’s Orchestra backing Frank Sinatra, run them close. As do Led Zep, Sabbath, The Wailers, Parliament and the JBs (late ’60s incarnation, Cold Sweat and all that).

To pick one, I’d say !!! (chk chk chk) as a proper band for today. Just cos they are so good live.

Of all time, probably Gang of Four.

To the OP, Good Charlotte. That is very odd, to me. They are like a kiddies version of a pop-punk band. I saw them live in Amsterdam (free tickets) and they were, well, cringe-worthy.
You really need to listen to more stuff! Not trying to slag you off, or say you should like the same as me, just trying to be helpful cos there is so so much better stuff out there.

Gotta be Rush for me. Lots of other bands get a listen but I always go back to them. Just been watching Spirit Of Radio live on You Tube. Fires you up nicely for venturing out into the snow.

    Possibly in this order:

    The Smiths
    Janes Addiction
    Belle and Sebastian
    Spiritualized
Pixies (although they could easily climb up the list depending on mood)

The band I can listen to over and over and still hear new bits and can’t seem to get bored of (so I guess that makes them my favourite) would be Tool.

One’s just too hard, sorry. Biffy and Foo Fighters getting a lot of airplay in this household. Really looking forward to the MK Bowl gig next year.

The Fopster’s list seems to overlap with a lot of my tastes!

White Stripes, Muse, Jimmy Eat World and Arcade Fire also a strong showing on our playlists.

The Church is probably my most played band over the last three (eeek!) decades.

Probably Muse is the most popular on my iPod at the moment.

Having gone through loads of phases in my life I’d have to choose 2.
For relaxation and just overall amazingness I can’t be without Dire Straits and Alchemy Live would be my number one desert island disc.
However I just love American punk music and Less Than Jake are far and above my favourite band, just seen them live and they were amazing.
Good Charlotte? Are you kidding? 😉

I should have put favourite bands rather than band. Cos I’ve got a few too, just Good Charlotte are my most favourite band because I’ve listened to there music for about 5-6 years.

I’ve got a lot of time for Good Charlotte, they impressed me at Reading- not a bad set but also they responded better to an epic bottling than anyone since Daphne and Celeste. Bit more to them than most US rawk bands I reckon.
