It’s my first time with these brakes and I think they are the source of an annoying rattle, as in, I think the heatsinks clash together when it gets bumpy.

Is this normal? If so, is there a recommended solution to dampen the noise (it sounds like my bike is rattling to pieces!).

    Cheers!

Never had any issues, they’d have to be very loose to clash together. Can you buy or try out some non-finned pads? Might as well save the swanky ones for long summer descents.

Do the newer xt brakes have the metal spring (for want of a better word) to push the pads against the calipers? Sounds like they might be missing or the arms are bent together too much.

This sounds feasible. I will check this. Thanks for your help! 🙂

Neither my XT or SLX do this, but there was a thread on MTBR about it so it must be a commonish problem. Some solutions suggested included bending the spring out so it has more tension, and wrapping an elastic band around the fins.
