    Am I being incredibly stupid?

    I bought a pair of XM-481 DT-Swiss rims, 29er, 32 hole, 30mm internal width.

    https://www.dtswiss.com/en/components/rims-mtb/all-mountain/xm-481

    DT-Swiss claim 525g.

My scales say 560g (not including the washers or nipples).

I “calibrated” the scales with some butter from Tesco; they’re within a few grams.

    What’s going on?

Not going to take the wheel apart to return it, that would be stupid.

My DT rims have always been a little more than quoted when weighed on my scales (kitchen from Lidl) with a little variance between any two.  Look on the bright side yours will be extra strong with that additional material 😀

Amateur hour. Get the Dremel out and hole them like we did in the 90s.

    my 29er 32h 481 weights 511g on “calibrated” scales.
In the sprit of dairy calibrations I used a 750g greek yoghurt pot at 802g minus the 37g of empty container =766g of yogurt so my scales weigh heavy..
I now feel a bit sick and unsure what I’ll eat for breakfast tomorrow now the yoghurts gone.

I didn’t weigh my XM481’s before building them up. They were probably lighter than the Hope 35W’s they replaced.

How do you know Tesco aren’t dodgy?

I’ve seen manufacturers’ weights be out by 20%, this is nothing.

Is it an issue that they are heavier?

Is the butter weight out by the same percentage?

I wonder if Dangerholm even goes to those lengths
