Already have more aggressive steel hardtail, looking for something more efficient for quicker XC rides
    100-120 fork travel
    29er
    Ideally up to about £500
Prob Alu, due to cost, weight value
    Considering waiting for Pipedream Sirius.
Would a Chameleon work with 120 forks.
    What else should I consider.
Size large, possibly medium if long enough.

When you say £500 is that frame only based on the bikes you mention?

A budget xc bike with a decent frame worth considering is the voodoo bizango Carbon I’ve always thought. Good base for upgrading.

If you want more efficient I always think you probably want lighter as a part of that so would avoid steel I think. Look at carbon or alloy.

Trek Superfly alloy frame near enough on the £500 budget here:

Sonder Dial perhaps – the white frameset looks nice for £499:

Or as a complete different option you could go Chinese carbon from a reputable factory like Carbonda. Not sure what this is costing now but would imagine close to £500 ish.

I have considered the new Bizango Carbon Pro, it looks like a great value option, out of stock but I assume it will come back in stock at some point, also looked at the Vitus Rapide CRX, but concerned its a bit short.
    Dial looks interesting too

I was looking at the rapide, thought I’d size up as I’d still get a 125 dropper in and then get a length comparable to more recent bikes I’d owned.

    Whippet (carbon)
Viajereo (Ti) both on planet X just wait for the offer to appear.

Scott Scale is on my shortlist too.

I’ve got a rigid whippet which is great fun to ride on the south downs. I’ve got 29 x 2.6/2.4 on it now but it’s most fun with 27.5 x 3/2.8

Can’t be too long before the frame will be on offer again
