It’s kinda essential for organising races and suchlike. You don’t want to start a class B race and one eejit turns up in an X-class. The only people you hear are those in your chat party, it’s not a free-for-all even in public games.

I started playing World of Warships last night. It’s free, and a giggle. It’s like multiplayer doom, only really really slowly.

The ‘chat’ headset is just that, there’s a control block on the end for volume / mute mic. Most (all?) other headsets that use the 3.5mm jack route game sounds through them too, though there’s a mixer control where you can change the balance of game / voice.

The official one is cheap and cheerful, but it does the job if all you want is voice comms.
