    Probably. I’ve never smashed a derailleur. I get that folks hate them as they seem to be vulnerable, but in 25+ years of MTB everywhere from leafy Chilterns to the Alps to Whistler back country. not once has a mech ruined a ride for me.

    I guess top of the list for me would’ve been punctures. It was a rare ride back in the days before tubeless in the Chilterns when a puncture/tyre slash wouldn’t ruin some-one’s ride. As a club we even bought bulk inner tubes, and I think pre HT2 square taper bottom brackets snapping. I’m not hard on kit routinely though.

    Modern derailleurs for me are like the Porsche 911, fundamentally a comprised design, but improved, perfected over such a long period as to work very well.

    e bikes will be the thing that pushes gearbox into the mainstream.
