Been hearing this a lot on the beeb coverage, most notably on Paxman’s latest series on it. I thought it had always been called The Great War or the First World War. Seems a bit odd. A change for the American audiences maybe? Probably not the biggest issue of the day!

I believe it was originally conceived as a one-off, but it was so successful that it got a sequel.

I think they’ve recently renumbered it so they can do a trilogy.
