I'm sure a few of you will know Vin Cox – organiser of the SW Cyclocross series, he's a nice bloke and a talented rider – anyway if you didn't already know he's currently trying to break the World Circumnavigation Record of about 165 days to ride round the world – http://www.greatbikeride.com/ – with no support team with him, totally solo.

Currently around 7,500 miles in – and roughly on record from what I can gather. Sponsor him here – http://www.justgiving.com/Vin-Cox if you have a few quid spare.

Anyway, there's also another guy called Alan Bate who's also just started to try and break the record – he's trying for 99 days – a stupidly quick time – currently somehow riding over 200 miles per day, which seems a hell of a lot to Vinnie's 115 approx average. Alan's achievements can be found here http://www.worldcyclingrecord.com/ – but when searching for them on Google, I can only find references to his press releases, and not any actual results for such an impressive resume. Has anyone else heard of him? Hopefully he's legit, (very impressive if so) but something just doesn't seem right to me?

Hmmm in 2008 he cycled 930km in 29 hours across Thailand apparently.. 577.8 miles at 20mph / 32kmph average for 29 straight hours? Is that even possible?
