I have not managed to get out in winter much for a few years now but a couple of weeks time is our annual winter walking week so hopefully this year conditions will be good and we will feel fit.

Nice one peoples, some great looking days out there. Ski touring in Canada looks great – doing a week in Switzerland in March.

I want to do a winter summit camp some time soon. Anyone got any good winter bivy pics?

    Some more pics:

Cheers THM, getting better thanks. This was on The Cobbler in the Arrochar Alps.

Only have a few poor quality pics from scanned slides

Couple from the Alps when we climbed the Finsteraarhorn (must be 22 years ago now 🙁 )

And another from around the same time when me and Mrs WF did a winter ascent of Agag’s Groove on the Buachaille in Glencoe

I can’t believe I’ve never been to Scotland looking at those pics.

I live in England so no excuse, totally amazing landscape, sent a (nice) chill down my spine just looking at the pics.

I have a couple of pics from when I dug a snow hole up the hill and spent the night there. However, they are all spoilt by steam from my breath 🙂

Plus I am not sure how interesting the bottom 2 feet of my sleeping bag and a load of snow is to anyone else

Some very impressive photos and locations on here, Grum, Malgray and Spin to name a few! Having moved upto Glasgow in November i’ll hopefully be doing alot more of this soon. Starting with Ring of Steall in a few weeks. Upto now i’ve just been running, so not quite a extreme as others.

Was on Liathach last winter in zero visibility.

It’s just a stunning area when you get the weather, we were very lucky last weekend. Living in Inverness it’s not so much of a gamble, back up Beinn Eighe to climb tomorrow.

Starting with Ring of Steall in a few weeks.

We climbed Steall waterfall once when it froze completely in the 90s a very rare occurrence. Sadly, don’t think I have any photos….

Some corkers up there. Barely saw a sausage last time I was out in Snowdonia, but managed a few ace easy winter routes.

Excellent stuff, thanks everyone. Really want to get up Liathach properly. Managed to climb up the snow onto the ridge after a drunken party in the youth hostel in Torridon but we started really late and it was getting dark so we headed back down. Beinn Eighe looks amazing too.

Some more from me – Buchaille Etive Mor yesterday. Intended to do curved ridge but didn’t get going in time (do you see a theme here?). First few not technically mountaineering but they’re from the same trip. 😉

Spin, we went up Fuselage Gully (?name, many years ago) after a night of windy hell camping in the coire, lost lots of kit in the winds, nearly the tent as well (I presume it was your route of descent going by the photos).

Last Sunday we went up it to just below the wreckage to access a route called Fight or Flight. Normally you’d go over the top and ab off the propeller (as in the other photo) but that approach would’ve been horrendous with the sort of snow there was that day.

Always think Fuselage Gully is a really atmospheric spot.

B.A.Nana, I think at least one of your don’t knows might be the Forcan Ridge.

One of my eternal regrets is not having done more winter walking and climbing. Reasons for not doing hills are not managing early starts plus moving efficiently (when teamed up with my OH); winter climbing lack probably due to low discomfort/cold/misery threshold and a bad formative experience (1985?) where I hurtled 300ft headfirst down a Creag Meagaidh grade V!
    Love the photaes though!
