I bought a laptop a few years back off ebay, it came with a genuine install of XP, or at least that’s what the listing said. The licence stuck to the laptop’s base. It’s been regularly receiving updates from Microsoft since then, and yesterday after updating, it decided to tell me that my OS install was a dodgy one.

Ring MS up and tell them your key is no longer working, supposedly they will give you a new one.
