    hi all
has anyone tried to fit the alu mech arm off a shimano deore xt shadow rear derailleur, onto the body of a shimano xtr m980 rear derailleur?
actual experience of this weird request appreciated 🙂

Sounds like a good idea to replace the super fragile carbon on the xtr. No experience of doing so, myself though.

Currently running one side ali xt arm and one carbon (now broken) side from the xtr so yes it will 🙂

Is it possible to buy just the arms?

probably cheaper to buy a whole mech from one of the cheapy german websites though?

thanks for info. a helpful regular on here has sent me the shimano techdocs, which I’m now studying.

Hi Scant. I’ve had the same problem with my 972 derailieur. I’ve ordered a carbon replacement from a company called Fibre lyte. They had all the main ones and you can order just one side. Price is £20.30 plus postage. Give them a call on 01642 713129.
