Built some Hope’s on BOR 333 rims for a mate last summer, rev spokes. They were still over 1600g for the pair and that’s with sub 350g rims.
Just built 28H Crests on Pro2 Evo’s for the GF with ally nipples (again 29er). Only just sub 1700g for the pair. And they’re 380g per rim.
My advice with 29ers…? Stop obsessing over weight! They’re heavier than 26″ or 650b bikes, there’s no getting away from it. The moment you leave them behind on a technical climb, or a rocky/rooty descent, you just won’t care! 🙂
I’ve got an American Classic all mountain set at the minute which are 2kg for the set so it’ll still be a decent drop in weight. The bike I’ve got I’ve not obsessed over weight, its just this was one area i wanted to drop some weight. Tyres is another one if i can.
