My son has wide feet. As a result we struggle to find him trainers that fit properly, particularly with the narrow lasts that the likes of Adidas and Salomon tend to use.

What does the great hive mind recommend for some waterproof approach shoes with a real human being shaped fit? He’s a. 5.5/6 or perhaps a eu 39/40 so right on the cusp of transitioning to adult shoes.

I like the look of the vaude lapitas but they seem to top out at a 38.

oh and actual real shops seem to be useless.

Keen are wide fitting shoes. Avoid scarpa – they’re narrow fitting

    no, some Scarpa are wide.

But in general approach shoes are narrow as otherwise they rubbish for the climbing bit.

And , are they really wide.  Everyone claims they are but… i’m about average width/volume and use a Scarpa mescalito
