Windows 7 and 'InPrivate' browsing sorts out the history, have you not seen the adverts?

Doesn't sort out the proxy though, does it?

And WTF are you doing with a Squid proxy at home????

Having a Squid proxy at home is paranoid to the extreme – will work in most cases, though…

Not that I'm ever likely to reproduce, but if I had kids then they'd absolutely be connecting to the internet through a proxy server. Why on earth they're not aggressively marketed as "safety online" products I really don't know; way better than any of this 'net nanny' tosh.

Mind you, I'm a geek, I'd be disappointed in any child of mine that failed to circumvent my enforced security. "Never mind that you were downloading pictures of Megan Fox, what on Earth are you doing getting caught, you blithering fool?"

No word of a lie there is a video on xnxx.com were a woman is using a squid as a proxy server, at least that's what it looks like from the thumb nail.

I took safari off my son's iPod touch and told him I would put it back when he told his mum why I'd removed it.

So far he hasn't told her…

Son, I've just realised you've bought your own Wireless access point, configured it to be a hidden and and connected it direcly to the router bypassing my proxy and hidden it behind the bookshelf. Well done my lad I'm proud.

The son uses PC in lounge, no where else, his mother demonstrated to him how to look at Browser History, tells, him "Your father an I have no reason to clear this, if it's blank, we'll assume it's you…"

"private" mode in most modern browsers means the history remains normal and no trace is left obvious. But you can check the windows media player recent play history for non-embedded history even when it gets deleted from the temp folder it is stored in 🙂 unless they're smart and have located the registry entry that stores the recent file list.

Scares me that some parents are so overbearing.

Bit harsh. And he is only gonna find it somewhere/how else anyway.

    Exactly

better off teaching him what's acceptable and what's not. He's going to see it elsewhere if not, who on here wasn't introduced to art pamphlets by a mate who'd found his dad's stash?

of course, i can claim to be an authority on this as i don't and probably never will have kids 🙂

Incidentally, isn't it fairly easy to put back on, and being of the newer generations it'll take him or his mates 15 seconds to put back?

I find it's not true that this generation know about computers – they know about Halo and Facebook and that's it. Wheras when I was his age I was adding RAM chips to my Spectrum, programming, etc, kids seem to have no clue that you can program computers these days.

another thing they seem to know is how to watch hard core porn on their mobiles when they are 14. I'm not convinced it's a good thing.

it's wildy encouraged my the mobile phone operators, they make vast amounts of income from providing adult material through their services

Nah, you just have non-computery kids, gamer types. Any kid with half an ounce of noddle these days could google the way to do it in ten seconds flat, never requiring to tell their mother anything and leaving their father assuming they were now porn free as cougar says!

another thing they seem to know is how to watch hard core porn on their mobiles when they are 14. I'm not convinced it's a good thing.

We "found" it before the internet or mobile phones existed, at the age of about 12-13. Surely better to just point out what's acceptable and what's not rather than make it a tabboo that they'll do behind your back? Removing browsers just strikes me as a poor way of doing it, easily reversed and bypasses the bit where you explain why some things are not acceptable, whats natural and what's not etc. What do I know, I'm not a parent, but that's how I'd deal with my kids.

Well they said it was Sam Fox, but it could have been any 32 by 64 collection of black and white pixels!

Are some of you guys too old to remember what you were physically doing yourselves at 14?!

I used to do it whilst eating carrots, so as to balance out any potential change to my eyesight.

In fact, you could coat your old man in Immac – for both it's lubricating properties and its effective hair removal.

I would assume so. Especially if it is full of sloppy seconds.

little bit of scripting and you can randomly change pics/flash vids to instead be a video/pic of you tut-tutting at him for being a filthy boy. That'll put him off his stroke.

For some reason this really made me laugh. It's a brilliant solution that could send the lad totaly insane!

NO! (Unless it is the very, very obvious 'squidgy' having a double meaning as something soft and as an animal) then it just wasn't funny 😉
