The more 2018 goes on the more I think we’re on the precipice of another fairly large conventional war. I’m currently reading Hirohito’s War – the election of Trump, Mattis who conjures up images of WW2 generals such Patton and MacArthur, the push by the far right in Europe, Brexit, Russias hybrid warfare, Chinas military expansion followed by Americas economic sanctions – it has so many eerie similarities to the years leading up to it kicking off in the Pacific in ’36.
I’m starting to think that major powers are starting to see the use of nuclear weapons as so insane, that they can actually fight conventional wars with each other, without starting a global nuclear holocaust.
