  • Why are these forks so cheap?

    Hi all,

I’m shopping around for a new fork, narrowed down to 120 or 130 Pike. There’s a few good prices on the German sites but this eBay seller is significantly cheaper.

My instincts say,”too good to be true”

    Overly cautious or walk away?

Yeah, be wary of anything bicycle related coming from Taichung.

    1. A lot of big brand bike stuff is made in Taiwan
    2. You may have to pay import duty
    3. Is that a good price? I see new RCT3 pikes around £300 in the Uk often not latest model though

Haha Most of the parts on your bike will be made in Taichung. SRAM have a factory and massive offices there too.

Forks are either from a local seller or out the back door of the factory id say.

Here.. similar price, newer model, no risk

Yep – that was my next stop. I think probably follow my instincts and pay a little more at a known retailer like r2 in case there’s a problem.

Thanks for the thoughts all – if it was a lower value item I’d risk it but just a bit too much to risk this time.

Probably legit but you might well get hit for import tax.

    That’ll be the norm come 1 Jan 2021 I think. 😟 🇬🇧

I’ve just had a set of the Pikes from r2. Arrived in three days, much cheaper than anywhere else, can’t fault them.

I had an issue with an order from r2 a while ago, they were fantastic at putting it right so they’re my go to now for components.

I see my post went way above your head 🙂

(given I have an absolute hatred for anything sram though it wouldn’t be a problem anyway!)

As above, have bought lots from R2, very positive experience all round.
