Why are single speed riders so opinionated ?

The people I ride with are very friendly.
For example they would never chase down or push past a rider, even one with full suspension just to show off.
But then again being a trail god does take some effort

I can’t be bothered to read this thread. I’m just sitting here waiting for ‘how to train your dragon’to finish so i can then put my son to bed.

I ride a SS, and have for some years to: Not go faster, not to bed cool. But because i like riding my bike around the woods where ever i may live, and unwind, relax, enjoy the ride and the scenery and not have to worry about anything else. I find my geared bikes you have that thing in the back of your mind; “should i change up, should i change down’ thing going on. You don’t get that with SS, just ride your bike, enjoy it. If it’s too steep push, if it’s too flat spin.

^Completely agree. I find it makes me work harder as well which ends up being more rewarding than sitting and spinning up a climb. Next trip to a proper xc location with big hills will be interesting though. I also get the niggling “should I be changing gear” thing.

btw both of my bikes are SS now and I haven’t seen an improvement in the thickness of my facial hair. I want a refund.

I ride single speed, I don’t think I’m opinionated, I don’t go around trying to convince anyone else to do it, or that it’s better than gears, I just don’t care if you ride SS or not.
Ride what you want.

I have a bike with 1 gear, a bike with 24 gears, a bike with 27 gears, a bike with 20 gears.
My son has a bike with 6 gears
My wife has a bike with 21 gears

Ive got a bike with gears and one without, the one without I ride in places that arent very hilly, I only ride down the week so no one even sees me do it, pah!

do people really ride ss bikes on the trails? i thought they were just for attenion whores who ride around trail centre carparks before they get there full sussers out the car and rip the trails up proper

Whenever I read the words ‘Ive got a bike’ I cant help but sing to myself ‘you can ride it if you like its got a basket a bell that rings and dings to make it look good’ I’m not the only one surely?
