Thing about fast riders is that they miss all the nice views and scenery and fall off a lot. Think tortoise and hare
too true.
i ride with a large group, about 20 of us, ages from mid 20s to mid 50s.
last autumn we went to cytb for the weekend.
a trio of us are a bit steady to say the least.
after the 1st mile of the beast of brenin the younger ones looked a bit miffed waiting
a spokesman for them said ‘i have a idea, lets split into 2 groups, faster and slower’.
so i waited at the back along with 2 more.
off we went, after about a mile or so on the 2nd rocky decsent we passed 2 of them puntured.
at the bottom of the descent 1 more had punctured.
we carried on, 1 more tagged onto the slow group.
i said to the other 3 ‘we can take it steady now, they wont catch us’
my mate asked why, i said ‘ because they will be going crazy on the downhills trying to catch us, and they will puncture all day long’
to cut a long story short we rode the entire beast of brenin route and they never caught us.
we had been back at the cafe, and drank 3 bottle of the organic cider there before they turned up.
i ofcourse did not rub it in for the rest of the weekend…. 😉
