Following on from my earlier thread, Les Arcs looks a good choice.

Where’s the best place to stay etc?

Have you looked at how cheaply you can go with a group?

We went with these guys, a few years ago now.

Not everyone wants to be guided in a group! We stayed here for a few nights

good campsite, bread, beer, milk etc on site and a short ride to the train up to the resorts. You can walk to Bourg St Maurice in 15 mins.

Going back this year to ride La Varda trail.

We stayed at a place called Le French Chalet last year, nice self catering accomodation, 10mins drive to the funicular in the morning. (Can ride over to Les Arcs and back if required). Did two or three guided days with Trail Addiction (E200 per day if I remember correctly, we had a group of 10, so E20 each) then the other days we just entertained ourselves.

Self catering so worked out cheaper than TA, my total spend including petrol, ferries, accom, lift pass, food and beer was just over £500

We went on same website as we did for our Chatel Trip last year, most of the people on here are brits and its really cheap to rent them in the summer 😉 ours worked our at £45 per person for a week.

Unless you know the trails like the back of your hand, you’re wasting your time if you go without guiding

    imo of course

I’ve stayed in Pierre & Vacances before and enjoyed it. Snowboarding though.

Went for to Les Arcs last summer (first biking trip to the alps in about 15 years) and camped in Bourg. Had about 4 days – used the marked trails and also took some chances with an IGN map and following our noses. Found some amazing natural single track and would do the whole thing again, but would think about getting at least a day with a guide next time. We also had a few days up in Tignes, using the free lifts – some amazing trails and views up there too!

Thanks everyone. I think we would have at least 1, probably 2 days guided riding just to get pointed in the right directions.

We stayed at the Loft hostel in Bourg, very pleasant.

Definitely get a guide, the riding you can find yourself is good but the stuff a guide will show you is amazing.

Only been to Les Arcs for snow related activities but I stayed in Bourg Saint-Maurice with Chill Chalet and they’re a great bunch, no hassles with set dates either, just book what you want.

    Bloody good snowboarders too!
