Am after a decent enough fire proof safe to store the deeds for our houses, the Mrs’ jewellery and a few other documents. Want something solid and sturdy, probably looking at spending between £100-150.

Anyone have any experiences, good or bad, or possibly be able to recommend me something? Have spent all afternoon researching and find myself no further forward!

    Cheers.

If its a fit and forget safe, avoid the digital ones the batteries run down and then you find youve lost the key to over ride the mechanism.

Portable ones are useless as the thief will just walk off with it.

Hide safe in a cupboard or bolt to floor somewhere hidden and disguise it by placing a cardboard box over it with the base cut out of box, to form a sleeve/cover.

Hypothetically, if the house burns down………

You just hold a PP3 to the contacts to power it and enter the combination.

However, it’s quicker and easier to just use a magnet to open them (works on about 99.9% of electronic domestic safes and leaves no sign of entry).

You also don’t need to worry about the deeds, they’re completely worthless* and you can always request a fresh copy from the Land Registry for a nominal fee.

    * a very small number of properties or land may not be registered but if you bought your house in the last 100 years, it will be.
