one that is comfy = it needs to fit you = no use asking us!

i know it doesn’t help but that really is the answer.

what I think I am really asking is, if I get it fitted are they worth spending 40-60 quid on or is a saddle just a saddle??

As said it really is a very personal thing, that looks a nice saddle you have chosen but only using it will really tell you.

For what its worth I used a Charge Spoon for the first time this weekend and it was lovely, I found it more comfy than the Bel Air and a WTB. Opinions vary.

saddles are an irritating thing to purchase, until you find one that suits. they’re not exactly cheap and you have no way of knowing how you’ll get on with a particular model until you try it. annoying stuff.

i’ve got a WTB rocket v slt on my new bike, and thus far it seems very good. not done any really long rides as yet, though.

Thanks. time for a bit of trial and error then. I’ll start with this one as its the cheapest haha.

I’d certanly recommend the BG saddles. I’ve got them on all my bikes.

Make sure you get the right width though. Any decent specialized dealer should be able to help.

thanks. Not sure if Evans will offer this service. Dales do but they are a bit dearer. I’ll need to see if I can do a bit of wheeling and dealing haha

Charge Spoon is worth a punt for £20 – I’m pretty happy with mine and about to get another for my commuter.

I keep buying saddles (WTB, SDG, Spec) and keep going back at a very old Selle Italia Flite.

When you buy a Specialized saddle you get measured across your sit bones – this helps with comfort later on, I use a Specialised Phenom, its light and razor thin but after a few rides to get used to it – it is now extremely comfortable.. yse saddle choice is important if you ride for long periods and not short blasts.

thanks neverfastenuff. I think that is teh one I will go for. I’m just about to call evans to see if they offer a fitting service.

Charge Spoon. Got one for Christmas after various recommendations. Got it fitted to my hardtail and it’s as comfy as anything else I’ve had straight out of the box.

I’ve got a Charge Spoon on each of my bikes, very nice and comfy, not exactly heavy either

Both my bikes have specialized BG saddles and they’re pretty comfy.

That said I had one of their more lightweight ones before that was too damn hard and was replaced by one with gel inserts.

I have a Flite Kit Carbonio on my Demo, a SLR carbon on my BLT and a San marco Aspide Tri on my road bike.

I suggest you try a few first, Specialized BG saddles are death for me.

The one that my be-one road bike came with is really comfortable and I spent ages trying to find another like it, it turns out they are exactly the same as the charge spoon which can be had for £20. Very comfortable and worth a punt, if it doesn;t suit you can always be sold on and you won’t lose much money.

    Couldn’t agree more.

I also believe that arses change shape over the years. When I was in my teens, my arse was very much Flite shaped, in my 20’s Flites became damned uncomfortable.

I’ve tried loads of saddles in the past, and always come back to an SDG Bel Air. They’re not for everyone, but for my arse they’re the most comfortable by a mile. WTB’s I find horrid, Bontrager’s too hard and badly shaped in general, Specialized’s don’t seem to suit (though I’ve not tried one of hte newer ones), Bel Air’s just seem to fit. That said, I’ve just bought a Charge Spoon to try out to see what all the fuss is about (seeing as everyone raves about them), hopefully it’ll fit as good as it looks. If not, it’ll just get replaced with another Bel Air.

eek…hope this doesn’t happen. Flites of various kinds on all the bikes, as I have done for 17 years. From the original Flite to a SLR carbonio, to an SLR NP on the singlespeed (that’s an SLR with the leather and padding stripped off ;))
Would cost me a **** fortune to replace them all…

SDG Bel Air +1, on your budget go for Ti rails

    SDG Bel Air here too.

32 quid for a 2007 Titanium rail version at the moment. Pretty hard to beat that.

the Ti-Fly is a less spongy than the Bel Air RL, which strangely I find far more comfortable than the two RL’s I’ve got, think I’ve found the saddle for me 🙂
