  • Which bike for Snowdonia? MTFU or an easy ride? Road content, be warned.

Off to the land of slate and sheep for a week of ffun & ffrolics.

Been many, many times before, but we’re sticking to the roads for a change.

Heart says take the pure road bike, suffer on the climbs and make up for it on the descents – compact with a 28.

Head says take the old Rockhopper with a triple, rack and panniers, struggle on the flat but retain dignity & breakfast.

Her indoors will be taking a road bike with a triple, refusing to carry anything but a knowing smile for each summit.

Days will be long and packed with steepness.

    Food will just be packed.

No faffing, shopping stops or Butterfly Palaces.
Not camping, but have to get home up the Ffachwen each night.
    Which would you take?

34-28 on a roadie is all you need in Snowdonia.

Didnt find any of the hills in Snowdonia too scary. Take the road bike, a compact with a 28 will be more than small enough for you to get up all the hills. Whack a big seatpost bag on it if you need to carry more stuff 😛

    Cheers for that.

Big bowl of porrige, quick chorus of ‘ Men of harlech’ and a big sprinkling of mtfu it is then.

Any decent road routes from Llanberis appreciated BTW.

We’ve done the Lleyn circular, Capel Curig/Bedgellert back up the pass routes along with Conwy valley/Betwys/Llanfairfechan but would really appreciate any suggestions.
Tour of Anglesey is on the cards.
