Based on the average GP waiting room 9 out 1800 people actually having something other than a cold or old age seems like a fairly horrifying statistic.
The week after New Year I spent two weeks in a room with a load of people from Asia and the US, shaking everyone’s hands as you do, then I went to Norway, Greece and Italy, via busy international airports. I feel crappy today.
Coincidence? No, but I don’t think it’s coronavirus 🙂
Just seen on the guardian that someone with coronavirus attend a conference in central london. Only 250 delagates, the advice being don’t worry unless you start to feel ill.
So one my colleagues went to this conference (UK Bus Summit). News came out today in the office, next thing the union reps are calling for hand sanitiser on every floor (beat them to that) and screen and keyboard alcohol wipes for every employee.
Employee affected feels fine but has been banned from attending the office for a week. And the union are now demanding that because someone else who attended the conference was in the office today for a meeting that the room is given a deep clean and every male toilet in the building gets the same treatment before people are allowed to use again. Sounded like a thinly veiled reason to send the workforce home to me. I didn’t fall for it.
The C4 News special from tonight is well worth a watch when it appears on catch-up.
Really excellent, well-sourced reporting by Matt Frei and his team. Health warning: Not great for people who don’t want to be particularly worried about covid-19.
Due to hoarding of surgical masks in the UK there’s hardly any left for the dentists to keep their surgeries open…
Not sure if that is hoarding or because a lot of the masks are made in China (hence not so many being made). There are a lot of issues with supply chains starting now as the west is so dependant on output from China. I work in a large IT org and the company is already seeing problems supplying the data centres as a lot of the cabling, servers components etc,. come from China. Also, see JCB who are on reduced week for same reason.
I’m about to fly to the US for a week. Stuck in LHR, then in an airplane, then in another airport, then mix with hundreds of people from all over the place, then repeat.
Who wants my Flare Max if I don’t make it? Otherwise my wife will likely take it to the household recycling.
Once of my colleagues flies back from Singapore this weekend after a 2 week business trip out there.
We’ve asked him to isolate himself for 2 weeks.
He’s called up and asked if we can arrange a hotel for him to isolate himself in because his wife won’t let him in the house!!

It’s hoarding companies sold out of supplies within days of the virus being announced. It’s made it very difficult for dental surgeons and other areas to get hold of them.
How on earth did we manage 20 years ago when dentists didnt wear surgical masks and eye protection? Amazing anyone is left alive to read this ..hello ..hello
Do the Chinese get day by day death rates from UK winter flu virus when its a bad year and many die? Then start cancelling their holidays en masse, I know this is different but pro rata many uk oldies used to pass on
I have to visit a hospital ( Corona Virus distribution center ) next week for an appointment . Large Rocky Mountain Element Carbon fs available soon , collection Hampshire
How will all this panic/overreacting affect spring/summer holidays?
At moment prices appear normally priced; will we see people not booking or cancelling pre arranged holidays to avoid airports … Then have cheap Mediterranean holidays thrown at us?
We have not booked our week for April or June yet, I am hoping within the next week or two the prices start falling significantly🤞

Sensible chap. If it’s enough of a risk that the company feels he should isolate him self why should be put his family at risk ?
When I flew back to work on Wednesday my flight to Frankfurt was only half full (usually rammed) and the flight from Frankfurt to Kazakhstan was only a quarter full (normally quite busy) it could just be a coincidence but….
My mate and his gf along with his son/gf are due back from a 6 week holiday in thailand on sunday, I’m collecting them all from the airport….dya think i’ll get away with hiring a cattle truck and bedding them down on straw for the journey home?.
Are you people dead yet?
HK is basically resuming normal activity, was out to day in the country doing some trail digging then popped into the local town for some beers (Mu Wo, Lantau), one local wearing a mask, the rest of us as nature intended. Its a seasonal bug, don’t get excited about it (though the working from home but is appreciated)

Friend manages a large specialist lighting firm, cruise ships, theatres, museums countryhouses and most of his jobs have very specific lights. The guys who supply them are running out of LEDs with no real idea when production is going back to normal.
Oh the joy of JIT.
Is it still safe to order cheap components (ie a chainring) from Ali-Express? Or WILL I DIE!?!?!??
They typically take a while to get here so are safe by the time they arrive. You may still die though if the cheap component fails at an inopportune time.
