- Where can I buy the helmet-pad material?
I’m going to have a go at making my own custom helmet pads. I can’t seem to find the material that grips the spiky velcro. Anyone know what I can use? The nearest stuff I’ve got is the covering to camping pillows. I keep wandering around material shops with a bit of Velcro in my hand, trying to stick it to fabrics.Posted 4 years agokayak23Subscriber
Self adhesive hook and loop. Make your pads and stick away!

The original pad material is a ‘loopy’ brushed nylon that sticks to male velcro. I’m trying to invent a helmet pad that helps with sweat transmission/evaporation. So I want a more porous pad. We sweat to lose heat by convection. If the sweat just soaks into a sponge, we don’t lose heat. And when the sponge reaches ‘full’ – what happens?Posted 4 years agojoeydeaconMember
I use this stuff – the foam based self adhesive draught excluder, works really well.
lasts way longer than normal helmet pads, easy to apply, doesn’t soak up as much sweat either.Posted 4 years agoscotroutesSubscriberGoldenTurquoise wrote:

It wicks into the buff I’m wearing on my bonce and the bit of the buff that’s hanging down the back of my neck helps that wick into the atmosphere.
