We were kicking a £5k carbon frame round the workshop the other day that had been damaged in transit and need to be destroyed. It’s very satisfying.

Good idea to put wood in the vice to protect the frame!

I cut a Scott Spark in half lengthways some years ago. Very interesting!

Were you making a mould tool to make your own copies?

Had to cut up my crashed Boardman with pictures as proof to the insurers, strangely satisfying. Also cut up an old, broken Specialized FSR XC frame I had too. Scary how thin the metal is on the tubes!!

As above. My guess is either warranty or insurance. Both may require proof that the original bike is beyond use before paying for a replacement…

Says it’s warranty proof in the comments.

I have no idea why I still have this (and it’s disconcerting how easy it was to find compared to useful stuff)

A recall rather than a warranty – I had to send a pic of it sawn in half to get a new one

I have a Felt AR FRD frame just two feet away from me that arrived knackered. I didn’t have to send it back or destroy it to get a refund. I offered to send back the forks, seatpost, headset etc., but they didn’t want me to. It does seem like it ought to be repairable in theory, but would cost a good few hundred I reckon, and even then… Could use it as a turbo mule but would still need a half decent repair, which would cost as much as a cheap frame anyway.

So, I don’t have a decent use for it, but can’t yet bring myself to destroy or ditch it. It’s very pretty though. And the RRP was something mad like £2500.

    LOL.

I quite like the fact you can see some of the weave delaminating as (s)he goes through the frame – obviously should’ve wrapped in masking tape too before cutting.
