Ok – decided to have a go at building my first new wheel! going on a hybrid i have built up – rigid forks will fit a larger wheel so have decided for a 28 inch wheel – Rim is Mavic A317, Hub is a XT Disc. Spoke Calculators work out at approx 300mm. However cant find any online retailers for anything near that big…!

    Any ideas…?

    300 is quite long.

how did you get to that?

Most 29er rims (and the Mavic A319) are around 605-607mm ERD and the XT hub has a PCD of 61mm at the front, so even 3 cross its only 292/293mm.

DT comp spokes are available in those lengths from Madison (Shimano importers) so just about any bike shop can get them for you, but they will probably want to sell you the whole box (100 spokes)as it’s not viable to just sell 32.
