Internal wall between kitchen and dining room, ground floor in 50’s or 60’s ex council semi (Scotland)

It’s just the bottom course, seems to be almost carpet like but built into the wall. Being slightly fibrous though best asking before stripping out (new doorway being created).

    Concrete floors/ceilings.

Brick worm cocoons, they can’t climb very high because their diet of bricks makes them very heavy so only pupate in the lower courses.

The good news is they hatched years ago, the bad news is the adults don’t eat bricks.

Not a bitumen type damp course?

Ok, that makes sense I guess. Just didn’t expect to see it running up from the floor for the height of a brick then into the wall. Probably about 2ft up from the ground outside.

It’s not completely intact at the moment but suspect the builder doing the work will be happy enough to carry out correct remedial work if required.
