  • What’s going on with my hub?

Slightly foxed by something with my DT 240 rear hub. Everything seems as it should be going forwards or freewheeling, but there is a lot of resistance when I try to backpedal. If I loosen off the axle a bit it’s fine. Does it with cassette and chain off.

Can’t see anything which might be causing it to bind where it shouldn’t. End caps are seated properly.

Have I missed something obvious? Not encountered this one before.

Have you had the freehub off recently?

Not DT, but with Hope hubs if you don’t reseat the seal properly it has a similar effect.

Not recently. Seems a bit out of the blue.

Time to pull the cassette/driver body off, clean and regrease with DTS minty smelling grease.
Probably a failing freehub bearing, seized spacer or gummed seal but start with the simple star ratchet service.

Did the star ratchet service just now and cleaned everything up, all seemed in good shape. Will check the freehub bearings.

And…it was the outboard bearing. Five minute job to knock it out and replace it. All good now.

Never had a 240 bearing need replacing before, hence the confusion 🙂
