Started wondering about this after reading Love Tubs post on another thread..

So if you had to choose between two things, one being cycling, what would you give it up for? The right woman? Sex? A better career? A different sport? Food? Alcohol? Money?

    Anything else?

none of the above, without cycling to chill me head out I’d be a mass murderer by now. I’d rather give up people and cycle more 😀

I used to spend a small fortune on re-enactment, spent ten yrs doing the hobby & travelled the country doing shows etc. I enjoyed it, but always said that the cycling would always come first.
Gave up the re-enactment stuff due to a badly-failed relationship (she’s still involved) & you know what? I don’t miss it in the slightest, i’d never be able to say that about my bikes.

Now, who wants to buy ten yrs worth of medieval re-enactment kit…?

    Not even arguing..?

I think I’d give it up for my life and my health (not going to do much cycling if I’m dead or sick anyway), but that’s about it.

Probably nothing. But I’d have said that about motorbikes and I’ve more or less given that up for cycling, so who knows what’ll happen tomorrow.

The only thing that would make me give up bicycles is motorbikes.

The only thing that would make me give up motorbikes is bicycles.

But I’ll never give either up while I’m still physically able to ride.

I wouldn’t give it up but competitions are takin a back seat for a while . I have an old landrover that needs tinkering with fancy doing some 4×4 trials .

I’ve more or less given up cycling to become a VSO volunteer…

I still ride here, but it not easy riding in Ethiopia.

Cannot wait to get back and get riding again.

An unlimited supply of jelly babies. but then, if I wasn’t cycling, why would I need jelly babies? catch-22.

Seriously though, if someone put a gun to a loved ones head and said “it’s them or the cycling”, I’d hand over the bikes. I’m sure life would carry on. But it’s a daft question, hence my first reply.

I love cycling but I reckon I’d replace it easily enough with another sport if I had to. Mountain biking is exceptional as sports go IME, but there’s plenty of others out there. They’d have to involve the outdoors though – that’s the real fundamental thing.

Well, I gave up cycling for a complete breakdown. But before that I would’ve said that I’d have given it up for a couple of days. A week at most.
Although… at times it’s been second best to munro bagging and scrambling.

Surfing if i lived in the right place. BMX if i was younger again (assuming that doesn’t count as cycling). Lots of money. A Minogue 3 way.

Rowing (the sport) though not really these days but I did to a reasonable extent in the past. Cycling was always going to be there when I wanted it to be.

Family though I can’t really think of a situation that would require it.

Whilst i may miss an evening due to “temptation” from the missus i’m with ton on the divorce thing.. Wouldn’t give up cycling for anyone or anything.it keeps me fit, keeps my mood positive,is good for socialising and i enjoy it.

I’d give it up to go and play in the NBA.

However, due to the fact that I don’t play basketball this is beyond unlikely.

i’ve given up motorbikes and social drinking for mountainbikes and gained a gf through the sport so it would take quite a lot to get me uninvolved.
snowboarding comes close but i just cant get the same appeal out of it as i do on a bike

I’ve been obsessed with a few sports in my time like cricket, tennis, badminton, petanque but I don’t think I would give up mountain biking. As long as you’ve got a few hours to spare, you have a bike, some trails/road and your health then why give it up? Well I suppose that’s your answer there ‘poor health’ is the only thing that would stop me.

I have pretty much, I can count on one hand the number of mtb rides I’ve done in the last 12 months due to Work, Kids and running. born through necessity but I prefer running now.

I was pretty much obsessed with mtbing from 2003-7, racing DH or spending most weekends either away or at least riding both days.

    Nothing…
Nearly given it up for girls before but never again..
    Even Natalie Imbruglia?
You would get bored of jumping up & down of her eventully…
Think of lying in bed (with her) on a Sunday morning and peaking out the side of the curtains to a clear blue sky…
“see you later doll im off out…”

I’d give up cycling if someone told me I’d never have to work again and gave me £100m
then I’d spend my time inventing a better sport

Natalie is very nice indeed but she’d still get thrown out in the street with her clothes. I nearly went mental when I couldn’t cycle for 3 months. There’s nothing you could give me to get me to stop.
