Usually I’d trot out “Balvenie Caribbean Cask” to any whisky thread but as you prefer island malts then perhaps Bunnahabhain 12yr old, at 46% it can take a snifter of water to develop the taste

Ardbeg Uigeadail is one of my favourites but it’s probably going to be nearer £55-60. The Lagavulin 16 is a sound choice if your budget is strict.

My favourite, Aberlour Abunadh was £45ish a few years ago, but its price has rocketed and is £70+ now, but it is good.
I’ve took a liking to Oban 14yo recently, well, mainly as I visited the distillery last year, and bought a small bottle.
Being on the West coast you’d think it would be peaty, but it isnt, it’s really smooth.
Probably due to it being distilled in Oban, but then barrelled in Edinburgh, so that salty air isnt getting to it.

Laphroaig Quarter Cask is currently 34 quid on Amazon and is excellent.

Any and all of the above, Lagavulin is a safe bet but the Oban is definitely worth a try if you’ve not had it before.
Very moreish.

Caol Isla or two bottles of Glenmorangie.

A half bottle of bells, and spend the rest on beer. done. 🙂

We did a virtual tasting last weekend with a chap from Mackmyra whisky, who are a Swedish distillery. Was a really good experience. Their Svensk Rok might be up your street.
My favourite was the Gront Te, which is finished in Japanese green tea casks. Better than it sounds!

Kilchoman machir bay, not too heavily peated islay malt from a small farm style distillery.
Or for something a bit different, Japanese ‘Nikka from the barrel’ is hard to beat for the money

Kilkerran Heavily Peated about £40 or maybe try some Indian Amrut if you like a kick

Give a specialist shop a call and they can talk through what you might like in that price range? I use The Wee Dram a lot in Bakewell, they do online too.

I tried “the one” a few years back and found it very drinkable though can’t say I’ve any experience of their other tipples.

I really like the Oban 14 and the A’bunadh mentioned above. Both around that price out here. Lagavulin can’t be beat if you like that style. Well it can but only by the lagavulin distillers edition! The A’bunadh is €32 in my local supermarket… has to be a mistake.

Non scotland. I’ve had so many arguments about that! Finally a guest sent me a bottle from Ireland (I used to say only the Irish would add e’s to their whisky). It was from Redbreast (maybe spelt that wrong) and it was spectacular I thought. A cask strength one.

On cask strength. The Glenfarclas is great and about your budget. And my mate gave me a bottle of Glen Ord from Goldfinch whisky which was out of this world (but like the Lagavulin distillers edition twice your budget).

Totally, totally different. The Glennorangie Nectar d’or is stupidly named but is actually really good and about fifty pounds. On the other end of the flavour scale from Lagavulin.

Yamazaki from Waitrose is a good drop and should fit with your island taste (unless you like peaty monsters).

Amrut Fusion. Half the malt is from Islay, the other half from India. Lovely stuff – who knew Indian whisky was so good?
